Team US F1 is an American motor racing team which has been granted entry to Formula One in the 2010 season.[1] The team is fronted by Haas CNC Racing technical director Ken Anderson and journalist Peter Windsor.[2] The team name was previously reported to have changed to US Grand Prix Engineering, or USGPE, due to the objection of Bernie Ecclestone, who claims to own the rights to the term "F1".[3][4] Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) president Max Mosley confirmed in early February 2009 that he had been approached by the group but that costs are currently too high for them to be competitive.[5]

Autoblog has reported that the team will promote American technology under the banner "Made in America" and that the cars will be designed and built in Charlotte, North Carolina. A secondary base will be somewhere in Europe, possibly in Azkoitia, Basque Country, Spain, sharing facilities with the Epsilon Euskadi racing team.[6] Anderson would like the team's cars to be driven by two American drivers and are considering any American driver with the right credentials. The team was officially launched on February 24 on the Speed television channel.[2]

Windsor's team blog confirms that one of their initial investors are the advertising agency of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.[7] Potential sponsors include YouTube.[8]

Plans for 2009

USGPE has no plans to begin testing in 2009. Despite principal Ken Anderson revealing that talks with manufacturers about an engine supply will begin shortly, the team is quoted as ruling out the possibility of testing on the track until early 2010.[9]

Peter Windsor confirmed during the televised practice for the Bahrain Grand Prix (on April 24, 2009) that the team has given a deposit to Cosworth Engineering, that will ensure that US F1 uses the spec Cosworth V8 engine for their planned 2010 entry.[10] Cosworth last appeared in Formula One in the Williams in 2006.

2010

On 12 June 2009, Team US F1 was granted entry to the 2010 Formula One World Championship. The entry list states that they will use Cosworth engines, as previously speculated.[1] Ken Anderson recently told German news reporters during the Friday practice session at Silverstone that he plans for his team to begin testing some time in November. The team has also begun search for American talent. [11]
