The Westfield, Massachusetts-based metalcore group, Killswitch Engage was formed in 1999, and after signing with Ferret label, released its self-titled full-length debut a year later. They then signed a record deal with Roadrunner Records, releasing Alive or Just Breathing in 2002. The album peaked at #37 on the Top Heatseekers chart.[1] The End of Heartache appeared in 2004, peaking at #21 on the Billboard 200, with 38,000 copies sold in its first week of release.[2] The album was certified gold by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2007 for the sale of more than 500,000 copies.
In 2005, Killswitch Engage was nominated for Best Metal Performance for the 47th annual Grammy Awards.[1] Later that year, the band issued its first DVD, (Set This) World Ablaze, which contained a live concert in their hometown, a documentary, and all their music videos from 2002 to 2004. The DVD was certified gold by RIAA in 2006 for the sale of 50,000 copies. Their fourth studio album, As Daylight Dies, was released later that year and peaked at #32 on the Billboard 200 with 60,000 sales in its first week.[3]
