Nathan - who attended agricultural college - helps run estate affairs. Nathan continues to pursue Katie but she prefers Lee so he causes trouble between her and Lee by sacking Lee after Lee punched him for taunting him about his grandfather's poaching from the estate. After persuasion from Katie, he gives Lee his job back.
Nathan starts working with Eric Pollard to ensure he is re-elected as local councillor, so a public footpath across Home Farm is closed to the public. While David and Eric are campaigning, Nathan and Eric try getting to David via his girlfriend, Leyla Harding, giving her a job and an advance to buy a new suit. Nathan also made a substantial donation to her mother's nursing home. When Leyla found out, she insisted he withdraw it. He refused but made it clear what he wanted in return. Disgusted, Leyla threw the suit at him and walked out. She told David and David confronted Nathan. Nathan taunted him about Leyla and in revenge, Leyla threw water over Nathan, telling him he needs to cool down. However, on 4 June, David Metcalfe is elected in Eric's place, meaning the foot path has to stay open.
In late June, Nathan is annoyed about Lee (platonically) living with Katie. Nathan drives Lee out of his job and causes trouble between him and Katie again. Fed up with both him and Nathan, she dumps Nathan and throws Lee out. Angry, Nathan responds by sabotaging her business, making Katie decide to take her horses elsewhere. UThis falls through and Nathan delights in upping the rent on the stables.
Nathan befriends Ryan Lamb, neither of them realising they are half-brothers.
