Date of birth

Sources have differed over whether her birth year is 1957 or 1959. Furthermore, an anonymous IP claiming to be the subject (but non-verifiable as such) has been deleting the birth date entirely. Many of the links do not appear to meet WP:RS - perhaps the most reliable are the University of Sherbrooke one (secondary source claiming 1959) and the Canadian Encyclopedia (tertiary source, claims 1957).

There was also some birthdate discussion on the French Wikipedia, particularly a reported posting on the singer's forum discussion page in which she claimed a 1959 birth year - (forum discussion is now a dead link).

However, I located a few Canadian newspaper article references in the 1980s (off-line, but all generally considered WP:RS):

  • Miller, Mark (1982-01-30). "Diane Tell lives happily in two worlds". Toronto: Globe and Mail. p. E7. Miss Tell is a direct and candid woman, just turned 24 this past Christmas Eve... {{cite news}}: Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |publisher= (help) (1981-12-24 minus 24 = 1957-12-24)
  • Tremblay, Ann (1985-04-25). "Diane Tell: Making her mark in France; She's alive and well and earning a living in Paris". Montreal: The Gazette. p. D7. ... the 27-year-old singer appears decidedly more conservative at home. {{cite news}}: Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |publisher= (help) (demonstrates 1957 or early 1958 dob)
  • Chodan, Lucinda (1985-12-14). "Quebec stars turn to the larger market in France". Montreal: The Gazette. p. D10. The 27-year-old singer [Tell] curls up in a comfortable chair... {{cite news}}: Italic or bold markup not allowed in: |publisher= (help) (still fits 1957-12-24)

These sources, and some of the French talk page discussion, strongly suggest a 1957 dob is the most reliable.

Also, there is a discussion on this article recently raised at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard#Diane Tell. Dl2000 (talk) 21:13, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The person who was claiming to be Diane Tell is really Diane Tell. And she said 1959, why we don't put 1959 ? Because contradictions ? Yes you can have many links with a 1957 birth date but now in France almost all the links claims a 1959 birth date. To be 100% sure, we had to see a birth certificate or a passport but I don't think this is a the goal of Wikipedia with living person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.82.40.126 (talk) 03:14, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
