  • Flooring stone: This town in Kurnool district mainly known for a specific flooring stone used for flooring purposes in houses. Besides the flooring stone, businesses are also based on Granite, Steatite powder.
  • Surname: Its a surname of Hindu's in southern India who hail from Kurnool district. Most of the people with this surname are found in Krishna and Guntur districts.

Geography

Betamcherla is located at 15°28′00″N 78°10′00″E / 15.4667°N 78.1667°E / 15.4667; 78.1667.[1] It is at an average elevation of 400 meters (1315 feet).

Betamcherla was not a town brought into light by some discoverer like Vasco-da-gama or someone else. The late kings, The Nizam Rulers were having their hand in ruling this area.

However, this Town started developing by some immigrant dynasties from the northern areas of the state. One of those dynasties Buggana took a major role in developing the town into a business centre.

It is surrounded by places which are rich in limestone, dolomite deposits and flooring stones.

The businesses first started from Soap stone powder which has a technical name Steatite powder. It is used for enhancing the brightness of a paper which are used for drafting in many purposes.

This town is the highest revenue generator for the electrical department around Kurnool District as there are around 400-500 small scale industries in this town along the path of every outgoing road.

Due to the high elevation of the town from the sea level, no rains can cause much damage to this city. The town is surrounded by hills that are mineral rich.

The city is economically very good since businesses are very well going. Though the businesses are seasonal (since if it rains, the mining would stop), The income level it gives would satisfy a persons family's needs for a year.

Agriculture

There are so many villages surrounding this town, namely Rudravaram, Yembai, seetaramapuram, sankalapuram, bynapalle,Balapalapalli, Muddaram,bugannapalli, which come under this Mandal.

Agriculture is concentrated well in these village areas through which crops produce some tons of rice and wheat to the markets where they are sold. Minor crops are concentrated full pledged like vegetables, flowers, and green grass.

Stone

Small scale industries are more in this town. They get raw material from the mining areas, mold the material into nice polished slabs, which are used mainly for flooring in homes, and anywhere. There are around 400 - 500 small scale industries that produce these slabs.

So many varieties of slabs are available for flooring purposes. Black slabs which are general ones are available with everyone. Polished slabs which come in the dimensions of 12*12 inches or any desired inches will be available in green, pink, white, and some limited colors.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Bethamcherla had a population of 30,977. Males constituted 51% of the population and females 49%. Bethamcherla has an average literacy rate of 52%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 62% of the males and 38% of females literate. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Buggana Sesha Reddy Government High school in this town is a very old school which was constructed by the mightier Buggana Sesha Reddy himself. It took him twenty years to complete the construction as the plan was very Outstanding. The Walls were built using very old method of mixing concrete. Sand, one spice of paan, concrete, were mixed and used to place in between the stones which makes the total building stand strong and even very cool inside the rooms.

The Construction was complete in 1973 and later when the time rolled on, it was converted to Government High school.

It is famous for Kakatiya temples.

Farming is the main occupation besides stone factories.
