Bevan Dufty (born February 27, 1955) is an American politician and a Member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He represents San Francisco's District 8, encompassing the 71,000 residents of Ashbury Heights, Buena Vista, The Castro, Diamond Heights, Dolores Park, Duboce Triangle, Glen Park, Lower Haight, Noe Valley, Sunnyside and Twin Peaks. He is the son of writer William Dufty and Maely Bartholomew.

Dufty is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a student body co-president and earned a degree in Political Science. After graduation, he served as Senior Legislative Assistant for Education in the office of New York Rep. Shirley Chisholm. Later, he served as Chief Legislative Assistant to Rep. Julian Dixon, a post in which he helped craft legislation that created the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. In San Francisco, he worked for former Supervisor Susan Leal, served as an aide under Mayor Willie Brown, and coordinated the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services.

A Democrat, Dufty was elected a supervisor from the city's eighth district in 2002 before being re-elected in 2006. He serves as Chair of the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, Chair of the City Operations & Neighborhood Services Committee as well as a Representative on the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District Board. As Supervisor, Dufty is known for being highly accessible and maintaining strong constituent relations. His current term expires in January 2011.

Dufty is openly gay and his election campaigns have often won the backing of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund. In 2006, Dufty and lesbian friend Rebecca Goldfader had a daughter, Sidney.[1]

On September 24, 2009, Dufty announced he would be a candidate for Mayor of San Francisco in the 2011 election.
