Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a super hit comedy serial that airs on SAB TV since 28 July 2008 which airs from monday - thursday 8.30pm IST The show is produced by Neela Telefilms. It is based on the column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma written by Indian columnist and journalist Taarak Mehta. The television series bears various issues faced by the nation and these concepts are very well shown through comedic sarcasm. Sometime moral values are also advocated. Example of these issues are "Dependence of Indian Housewives on Domestic Help", "Popularity Of Cricket In India", "Thinking Of Husbands", "Significance of Literate person in the society" etc.
The serial completed its 200th episode on July 28, 2009. The show celebrated a TAARAK MEHTA KA OOLTAH CHASHMAH WEEK for 200 episodes airing each day a one-hour special episode from 27-31 July 2009

Characters
The television series moves around a middle class society called as Gokuldham Co-operative Housing Society in Mumbai, featuring people from all religions and parts of the nation.
Gada Family
Jethalal Gada
More focus is laid upon the Gujarati Gada family. The head of the Gada family is Jethalal Gada (played by Dilip Joshi) who runs Gada Electronics, a consumer electronics store. He is portrayed as the second wealthiest man in the society after the gangster Mohan Kumar. He is uneducated but nevertheless a clever businessman. He is mainly helped in business by Nattu Kaka, his business assistant. Loves his family a lot, Jethalal creates humour for all.Best friend of Jetha is a columnist and a writer Taarak Mehta (Shailesh Lodha). He is intellectual, friendly and active. During a twist in the show, Taarak Mehta arrives describing about it to the viewers. He gives some advices relating to that episode. His wife Anjali's (Shweta Bhosle) resembles his nature.
Daya Gada
Jethalal's wife Daya is very talkative but loving and caring towards her husband and son Tappu. She is also uneducated, as is her husband. She loves to play Garba and does so on every opportunity. She is the most humorous character of the show and has a peculiar style of speaking which makes you roll down the floor, laughing! especially when she speaks "He Maa, Maataji...." (it's like OMG).
Tapu
Tapu, their son (of Jethalal & Daya) , is notorious for being a prankster. But he is also vigilant and the leader of the children in the society; their group is referred to as the "Tappu Sena". Tapu is a good cricketer but not a good student. When Tappu exceeded his limit of notoriousness, Jethalal called his father Champaklal Gada from their village to try and mend Tappu's ways.
Champaklal Gada
He is Jethalal's Dad. Champaklal is the most aged and experienced person in the society. He is respected by everyone and he is referred to as Champak chacha. He often explains Tapu about his blunders.
Sundarlal
(Mayur) is the brother-in-law of Jethalal who lives in Ahmedabad. Sundar comes to Jethalal's house sometimes but Jethalal doesn't like him at all.
Mehta Family
Taarak Mehta
He is a calm, composed and a famous journalist who writes a humorous column for a weekly magazine. A well known name in the world of literature'Taarak Mehta' is the narrator of the happenings in Gokuldham Co-operative society. He introduces all the characters to the viewers. He is an intelligent man and can have endless discussions on a topic which can end up irritating his beloved wife 'Anjali'. The man is very fond of giving advice & loves solving Jethalal's problems. Jethalaal trusts Taarak Mehta and finds a philosopher and friend in him. Taarak Mehta on the other hand is fascinated by the way Jethalaal the Gujarati businessman lives his life.
Anjali Mehta
Wife of Taarak Mehta. She is a young, sophisticated and modern woman. She believes in creating something useful out of the waste and thus experiments extensively perusing this habit. She is a dietician by profession and controls Taarak Mehta's diet. Jethalaal frequent visits to meet Taarak at their house often upset her.there are very helpful.
Bhide's family
This is the Maharashtrian Family, Consisting of Atamaram (Husband), Madhavi (wife), Sonu (daughter)
Atmaram Tukkaram Bhide
He is the secretary of the society & he is a tutor & runs a tutorial called Bhide Tution Classes in his home. He is very stern by nature and he always leads a simple and honest life. His relations with Jetha are not quite good.This serial many a times appears to very biased and their inclination towards gujarathis is clearly visible.Mr Iyer and Mr Bhide are needlesly insulted by Jethalal and this shows south India in bad light.
Madhavi
she is wife of Atmaram & manufactures pickles, papad and other such dishes and supplies them in the society.
Sonu
The only daughter of 'Mr. Bhide',she is a very sweet child who is not only well mannered but cultured as well. She is an intelligent and systematic girl. She goes to school on time, attends all her classes, comes back home, plays for a little while, does her homework, prepares her bag for the next day, prays to God and goes to sleep. Unfortunately her father's insecurities irritate the little girl.Though Tapu and she argue a lot they get along equally well. Mr. Bhide's constant effort that she ties Tapu a Rakhi goes down the drain.
Iyer's family
Consisting of Mr.Iyer (Husband) & Babita Iyer (wife)
Iyer
He is a scientist from South India. He doesn't like Jethalal because Jethalal always tries to flirt with his wife Babita who happens to be the most beautiful and stylish woman in their society.
Typical of any serials broadcast in any channel across India, the south Indian is always shown in bad light (despite the fact that the South Indians) efficiency and rest other characteristics being well mannered, strict and straight. Perhaps the reason may be that these seldom (NEVER) watched in the four southern states, which have enough of TV channels that offer better humor (without hurting any regional sentiments).
Babita (Moonmoon)
Wife of Iyer, She's a Bengali & from Kolkata. She works as an 'A- GRADE' junior artist[1]. Jethalal always tries to flirt with her. She is very good looking
Sodhi's family
This is the Punjabi Parsi family.
Mr. Roshan Singh Sodhi (Gurcharan Singh)
He is a Punjabi garage owner and a drunkard .He owns a transport business and also runs a Mandap Decorators service as an ancillary business to support his wife. Mr. Sodhi is a very short tempered and aggressive man. He hates 'Tapu' for breaking the glass of his window unlimited number of times.
Mrs. Roshan Sodhi (Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal)
A Parsi lady married to a Sardar defines Roshan who also shares her name with her husband. She is a sweetheart and very co-operative. She innocently commits a mistake but never realizes it which turns into a funny light moment. Both Sodhi and Roshan always have communication issues because of the language barrier.
Gogi
Son of Mr. & Mrs.Sodhi. He is also the youngest member of the "Tappu Sena".
Dr.Hathi's Family
This is the family from Uttar Pradesh.
Dr. Hansraj Hathi
is a doctor who weighs over 225 kgs, and is very fond of eating.He also keeps falling off to sleep in the middle of conversations. All the society's residents go to him for medication. Most of the time he uses the dialogue 'sahi baat hai' (Translated: That's right.) But the funny part is, he keeps saying that to everyone even with conflicting views.you are very very 0,fat
Komal
wife of Dr. Hathi.
Goli
Son of Mr. & Mrs. Hathi. Goli is also a member of the "Tappu Sena".
Miscellaneous characters
Abdul
The only Muslim character in this serial, he has a small shop near the gate of the society, is also a familiar figure in the society. In the evening, all the male of the society gather at Abdul's Shop to drink soda.
Mohanlal
He is the kingpin on illegal gambling activity, and hence referred as 'Matka' king by other character.
Popatlal
He is a reporter and a single man & always carries an umbrella with him. He is very thin, but always in mood to pick up fight with everyone. His repeatedly uses a dialogue "Main Duniya Hila Dunga" (Translated: I'll shake the world.)
Kerry
She played a brief role of a foreign tourist who met Jethalal when he visited London.[2] While spending time with Gada family, Kerry (played by American Kari Irwin) starts loving the Indian culture and stay there with the family from Navratri to Diwali. The family also goes to Ahmadabad with Kerry to celebrate Navratri, during this time, Patrakaar Popotalal falls in love with her, and tries to get married. But later it is revealed that Kerry was already in love with another man named Nilesh. After knowing this Popatlal helps them get married.
Rita Reporter
Rita reporter in the society is a journalist of a channel "kal tak" . Any problem in the society, rita reporter is there to take a report on it and telecast it world wide.
Pinku
Pinku is a member of Tappu Sena.But the Tv show never show Pinku's parents.
Nattu Kaka
Nattu Kaka is the manager of Jethalal's shop who is a very talkative person and Jetha doesn't like him.
Sehwan
Sehwan is the head of junior artists who is also shown as a resident of the society.
Episodes
Picnic At Tikuji ni Vaadia
- all the women, children and Champaklal went to picnic at Tikuji ni Vaadi.
- All the male members remained at home (because earlier they had said no to picnic to their wives.)
- in the Picnic, gogi fell asleep in a bench and there was chaos because everyone thought he went missing.
- this prompted all the male members to quickly reach the spot, only to find out that everything was well and fine.
Gogi goes Missing
- Rita Reporter gives Tappu Sena, a chance to appear in the a TV Commericial called 'Choco Day'
- During the auditions all the members of Tappu sena gets selected. (Except Gogi, son of Sodhi)
- Because of this Gogi is Upset, because he couldn't appear in the TV like his friends.
- To cheer him up, Tappu makes a plan, that they'll hide Gogi in the empty apartment (where Kerry used to live earlier) and then Rita Reporter will telecast the report of missing Gogi on the news channels and thus Gogi will apper on the TV channel just like his friends!
