Tando Adam Khan
Tando Adam (Urdu: ٹنڈو آدم خان) is a town in Sindh, Pakistan.
History
The foundation of Tando Adam was laid by Raees Adam Khan Marri, and after a while the name was changed to the shorter "Tando Adam".
The town has a number of ancient places including mosques and Hindu temples. One of the oldest temples dates back to the 16th century. Retaining its original design, it is now the Dr. Ziaduddin Government Primary School. Tando Adam Khan is also known for its large number of hafiz-e-Quran. The shrine of the poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai is 16 kilometers away from Tando Adam. The government erected a gate called Lateef Gate in memory of this poet which leads to the shrine.
Tando Adam has produced numerous scholars including Manzoor Ali Khan, Rasheed Ali Khan, Wazir Ali Khan, Mushtaq Jiskani, Syed Faiz Ali Shah, Abdul Hameed Khoso and many others.
The renowned scholar Khalid Alig established an educational institution named Tadem School which gained remarkable reputation. It is now expanded to New Ali Garh Government College and Sir Syed Government High School. (Post Nationalization)
The only park in Tando Adam named Gulshan-E-Siddiqui was named after the late Dr Tahir Hussain Siddiqui who was martyred while still in office as Mayor of Tando Adam. Dr Siddiqui was in office for ten years and was the first elected mayor of Tando Adam. Dr. Siddiqui is still remembered in Tando Adam for his sincere dedication towards social work and the uplifting of the under-privileged and the destitute of Tando Adam.
Tando Adam falls in Urban Sindh.[1] Like other Urban areas of Sindh the majority of people living in Tando Adam are Urdu speakingMuhajir.[2]
Various languages are spoken, including Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi and Pushto.
Economic activity
The town has many emerging industries and is considered to be the trade hub of the district. Tando Adam has the biggest power loom industry in Pakistan. Besides this, numerous fruit juice, paper products, cotton ginning and cottage industries also contribute to the national exchequer.
It also contains many educational institutions. It is famous for its foods, including "sajji" which is exported all over the world.
The major business areas are linked with Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road. Muhammadi Chowk is the transit hub for proceeding to Hyderabad via the national highway.
