Jason Campbell (born December 31, 1981 in Laurel, Mississippi) is the starting quarterback for theWashington Redskins in the American National Football League.

College career

A 2000 graduate of Chantilly High School in Fairfax, Virginia, Campbell went on to play college football at Auburn where he led the Tigers to an undefeated season in 2004 and was named the SEC Player of the Year and MVP of the SEC Championship Game. Campbell held the record for the longest touchdown completion in Auburn football history, an 87 yard pass to Silas Daniels in a 2004 matchup versus Louisiana Tech, until Auburn's 2009 game against LA Tech (93 yards by Chris Todd). Campbell graduated from Auburn with a degree in public administration.

Professional career

Draft

Campbell was drafted as the 25th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. The Redskins traded up in the draft to get Campbell. They surrendered a first, third, and fourth round pick to get the first round 25th pick from the Broncos.

2006

On November 13, 2006 coach Joe Gibbs named Campbell the starting quarterback of the 3–6 Redskins over Mark Brunell.

On November 19, 2006, Campbell made his first career start, and he threw for two touchdowns and 0 interceptions in a 20–17 Redskins loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On November 26, 2006, Campbell earned the first win of his pro career, leading the Redskins to a 17–13 victory over the Carolina Panthers. Campbell completed 11 passes on 23 attempts for 118 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Campbell threw a 66 yard touchdown pass to tight end Andy Issitt in the fourth quarter, which proved to be the decisive score. It was later discovered that Campbell's headset used to call plays had malfunctioned right before the play. Campbell called a play that he felt had gone well in practice, not knowing the intended play, and delivered the following touchdown pass.

On December 10, 2006, Campbell nearly hey whats up man urging Philadelphia Eagles team. Campbell led the Redskins to 16 unanswered second half points, while going 15 for 27 for 182 yards and a touchdown in the game. The touchdown was a long 34 yard strike to Antwaan Randle El, and the only difference in the game which ended in a 21–19 Redskins loss, was a tipped ball interception returned for a touchdown by the Eagles.

2007

On August 18, 2007, Campbell was tackled at the knee by Pittsburgh Steelers' DE Brett Keisel in the second preseason game. Initially, the injury looked severe but Campbell eventually walked off the field on his own. Trainers said that Campbell's ligaments weren't torn and announced his injury as a "bruised knee."

On September 17, 2007, Campbell showed his knee injury did not hold him back, as he led the Washington Redskins to a 20–12 win over the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Jason Campbell wears No. 17 for the Redskins, which was his college number, and it once belonged to Super Bowl MVP Doug Williams, and Billy Kilmer, the quarterback who guided the team to its first Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl VII.

On Oct. 7, 2007 Jason Campbell set career highs in completions, yards, and passer rating for a game against the Detroit Lions. His stats for the game were 23 of 29 for 248 yards and two touchdowns with a passer rating of 125.3 as he lead the Redskins to a 34-3 victory. Later in the week, he was named the NFC Offensive Player Of The Week

On December 6, 2007 Campbell dislocated the patellar ligament of his left knee during a game against the Chicago Bears. The injury did not require surgery but Campbell did not play for the remainder of the season.

2008

When Joe Gibbs retired for a second time at the end of the 2007 season, the Redskins hired Jim Zorn, first as Offensive Coordinator and then naming him Head Coach. Zorn said at the time he would also serve as Quarterbacks Coach. After some initial challenges with the adjustment to Zorn's version of the West Coast offense, after eight 2008 regular season games the Redskins were 6–2, with Campbell playing a key role in major road wins at Dallas and Philadelphia - in the process becoming the Redskins' new record holder for consecutive passes without an interception, breaking Joe Theismann's previous record of 161 during the first half of the game at Philadelphia on October 5, 2008. Campbell was intercepted on November 3, 2008 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The season did not end as the start indicated, as the Redskins lost 6 of their last 8 games to fall 8-8 and missing the playoffs. Much of this is due to the fact that Clinton Portis was running injured during the second half of the season. Management began to pursue other quarterbacks in the offseaon.

2009

Despite pursuing other quarterbacks in the off season, the Redskins were unable to come to terms with Jay Cutler or Mark Sanchez, and thus opted to start Campbell for the last year of his current contract. After many overthrows and missed chances throughout the season, Jason Campbell was benched in favor of Todd Collins during Week 6's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Jason has been named the starter for the following week (week 7) against the Philadelphia Eagles. Campbell is in the last year of his current contract.

Personal life

Campbell is currently dating Mercedes Lindsay who was Miss DC 2007, and the two attended the mayor's inaugural bash in Washington D.C. together.
