Help

o.k, so I have been trying in vain to add a picture to an article i helped expand substantially. The article I am referring to is about the author Patrick French, and at the author's own request I have been trying to upload a picture made available by his publisher. You, and other extremely zealous administrators/editors, keep deleting the image apparently because I have an improper license. I don't see how. I have tried to figure this out, but its extremely confusing. So, here I am, hoping that you could perhaps tell me what I need to do to make sure you don't delete it on a whim. I would appreciate if you did not direct me to one of the Wikipedia pages on uploading images because they are full of jargon and beyond my comprehension. It would be great though if you could give me instructions in simple English. Thank you. Mandakinigahlot1984 (talk) 21:22, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When you upload the image, you cannot say the image is for Wikipedia use only or for education use only. Images must be either free for anyone for use for anything or licensed under an acceptable fair use license. Furthermore, if you have a conflict of interest with the subject, you probably shouldn't be editing their article anyway. TNXMan 22:31, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So, I am still not sure how I should upload the picture. I tried a different license but it was still deleted. I would really appreciate if you could tell me exactly which license I ought to choose. I understand about conflict of interest, and I would urge you to read the article, if at all you feel it is non-neutral or biased in anyway, I will be more than happy to make the change.Counting on your advice. Thanks. Mandakinigahlot1984 (talk) 12:50, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I took another look at the image and saw that it is a copyrighted work (this is why it was deleted). The Random House website indicates that the picture is copyrighted by the photographer. Wikipedia cannot host that image at all unless we receive notification from the author that he releases the copyright. Please see this page for more info. TNXMan 12:54, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grandoldteam page deletion

This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference.

  • 16:23, 13 December 2009 Tnxman307 (talk | contribs) deleted "Grandoldteam" ‎ (A7: No indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion)

So, in less than two hours of its creation - you deleted it on the grounds that there was no indication the article may meed guidelines for inclusion?

How about giving a page over two hours before making assumptions? Poor moderation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GrandOldTeam (talkcontribs) 16:31, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest starting by indicating why it's notable enough to warrant an article in the first place. You may find this guide to writing your first article useful as well. TNXMan 16:33, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please read our info on conflict of interest and why you shouldn't be writing articles about websites that you run. TNXMan 16:34, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Wikipedia articles should not exist only to describe the nature, appearance or services a website offers, but should describe the site in an encyclopedic manner, offering detail on a website's achievements, impact or historical significance"

The latter would have been done if you hadn't so hastily deleted it (within two hours of creation).

Oh, and again ANOTHER assumption. I don't run it.

Toes

Sorry, I think I'm stepping on your toes with those moves, will stop now *guilty look* SpitfireTally-ho! 17:08, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

what you'll have to do is delete Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning, and then move User:Manderson.utsystem/Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning to Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (just in case I confused you). Regards, SpitfireTally-ho! 17:09, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I'm not entirely sure what happened there either. Is everything where it should be? On a side note, it worries me that this article has been edited by a "team", which to me implies a shared account. TNXMan 17:11, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to direct the user/s to the policy regarding shared accounts.
What basically happened was that the user/s tried to move the page User:Manderson.utsystem/Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning into the main space, for some reason, cluebot thought this was vandalism, and reverted it, something to do with redirects to non-existent pages (I have reported a false positive, I expect that the redirect was created, and then the page was moved, but between the two cluey tried to revert the move because the redirect was heading towards a (then) non-existent page.
Then I tried to undo cluebots revert of the move, but (stupidly) move the page to Manderson.utsystem/Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning instead of Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning. Then I realized that the page at Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning needed to be deleted before I could move to it, so move the page back to User:Manderson.utsystem/Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning in the meantime, then you came and moved Manderson.utsystem/Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (which was now just a redirect) to Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning over the redirect.
Yeh, so basically, if you could move User:Manderson.utsystem/Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning to Intercultural Communicative Competence in Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning that would tidy the entire thing up.
Goodness, I completely despise page moves, heh heh, SpitfireTally-ho! 17:18, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"Communicative Competence", if it was "incompetence", then it would totally sum up my last comment :) SpitfireTally-ho! 17:24, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I've moved it now, don't worry, everything is fine, nothing more needs to be done. (I will post a comment on helpdesk in a moment). Regards, SpitfireTally-ho! 17:26, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Great! If you need me to do anything else, let me know. I'm still not sure what the article is about, though. :( TNXMan 17:38, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A request

Hey, I was looking for the page on Mudra Institute Of Communication,Ahmedabad and realised it had been deleted. Reason you cited was: 00:11, 26 October 2009 Tnxman307 (talk | contribs) deleted "Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad" ‎ (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion)

Now, I would like to rewrite the page with the help of a few of my batchmates here at MICA. If you could help me with the content of the previously displayed article, we might try and avoid those issues in the next one.

I understand there might be a really elementary way of getting this done. But am a noob here, and so do try and forgive my ignorance.

Cheers, Rahul Rasoolhathkadi (talk) 19:39, 14 December 2009 (UTC)'[reply]

The page has been restored to User:Rasoolhathkadi:Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad. I would suggest reading our info on writing your first article, how to write from a neutral point of view, and what constitutes advertising. TNXMan 20:47, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was deleted because it was advertising for someone, in addition, it did not indicate why the subject was notable to warrant an article. TNXMan 21:37, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Music Publishing - You Deleted It

Hello Tnxman307, I was creating a page on Wikipedia that was about my brother's business, 'Golden Music Publishing'. As I was creating it a warning popped up, saying that you deleted the article. I was wondering why exactly, and as to how I can get this back online. If you wish to have proof of my brother's business please folow the link listed below.Golden Music Publishing The Link listed above is temporary, as soon as the new year arrives we will be purchasing a domain, the server we are using would make us pay on New Year's Eve, and my brother has only just started his business. --N64 games ftw (talk) 21:45, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simply because a company exists does not mean that it is notable enough to warrant an article. Furthermore, if you have a conflict of interest, you are highly discouraged from writing about the company. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article and possibly look in to the articles for creation process. TNXMan 21:48, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Billy Faier article

Was working on this (Billy Faier) while you deleted the talk page. How on earth is anyone supposed to edit fast enough for any new article to survive? --scruss (talk) 16:14, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When you create the page, it should include enough info to indicate some importance. This will help the article avoid speedy deletion. I would suggest reading this guide to writing your first article, as that may have info that can help you. TNXMan 16:18, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've been contributing here since 2004; this is not my first article. The article was deleted before I even had a chance to post a holdon. --scruss (talk) 19:15, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

deletion

Greetings... I would like to continue working on my page which talks about our new music scene in the small college town of Binghamton, NY. It also includes my recently signed band the Benjamin Raubinsons as the the staple for other bands that make up the music scene. May I please continue editing and creating my page as I have cited creditable sources? Please help me in continuing this page. I vow to you that it has no malicious intent.

Thank You —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.75.158.58 (talk) 06:29, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your best bet is to work on the page in a sandbox. You may also find this guide to writing your first article useful. However, please be aware of our conflict of interest info, which highly discourages people from writing about subjects to which they have a personal connection. Astro super sport

But the fix does not necessarily attend to WP:V, WP:N or WP:NOT - ?? SatuSuro 16:02, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Very true. I was just fixing the infobox (and noting that it was not patent nonsense). If it still qualifies for speedy deletion, feel free to re-tag it. TNXMan 16:05, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Out of curiosity what would you do with the empty content issue at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesia_at_the_2009_Southeast_Asian_Games and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_at_the_2009_Southeast_Asian_Games  ?? - cheers SatuSuro 16:07, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think those are very easily fixable. A brief paragraph summarizing each countries' involvement in the games would rescue the articles. TNXMan 16:10, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK - its just we do get a high level of dump and run edits in the wp malaysia and wp indonesia projects - they do their little mess and never return :( - thanks for advice and help - cheers im getting off - its late here (Perth, WA) - thanks again SatuSuro 16:13, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OffshoreGrid

Hi tnxman307

I had created the OffshoreGrid project's wikipedia page when I got an alert saying "copyright infringement" and then the page was promptly deleted by you. As we wrote the material for the OffshoreGrid project site, we feel it should be ok for us to replicate the same text in Wikipedia. As I am new to this wiki thing I would really appreciate it if you could help me solve the infringement issue.

Best regards,

Jason —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ewea (talkcontribs) 15:16, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am just writing this to let you know that there is someone posting on the talk page of a page you recently deleted, because Im aware that there's a bot that goes through pruning talkpages of deleted articles, sometimes fairly quickly, and wanted you to notice it. I myself am not requesting that the article be restored, however. The text of the conversation is:

-- Soap Talk/Contributions 22:00, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up. You mention that you had this watchlisted, did it exist under a different title before? I only see the edits from today. Of course, if there are reliable sources supporting the article, I'd be happy to restore it (or even userfy it, but there wasn't a whole lot there to begin with). Cheers! TNXMan 22:44, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's strange. I must have watchlisted it even though it didn't exist (I do that occasionally). There once was such a thing as the Pansexual Peace Party, but as far as I know the only ranking member lost interest quite a few years ago. The google results for the term seem to consist mostly of people who've named themselves after the "original". -- Soap Talk/Contributions 00:56, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Xtranormal

You know that page you deleted? Well, I was gonna write an article about it, but I read that big red sign. You know, that page you deleted? Don't you remeber!!!!! That red sign when you want make an article that was deleted? Is it a similar topic? <- That's the question. Thank you.--YouthOlympicsbutiCarly (talk) 16:41, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you referring to Xtranormal? If so, I encourage you to read our guide to writing your first article. You may also want write a draft in a sandbox in your userspace. TNXMan 17:03, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Koleko page should not have been deleted, you did not read my talk article

Hi there, I see you've done a lot of good stuff for wikipedia and know quite a bit about it, so hopefully we can work this out: the page had existed for less than a few minutes before it was deleted; this was not time for me to add further references, and the page was actually deleted as I wrote further information on the talk page, therefore you probably didn't read it. I recognise that I should have kept it in the sandbox longer but deleting so quickly just made it very difficult for me to write a good article -- I couldn't even do the talk page before it was deleted.

At the very least, please send me the content that you deleted so I can continue to work on it and add references, but it really can't be something you often do to kill a page before it has a proper talk entry. If you're concerned about why this topic should be covered on wikipedia, consider that there are many pages about popular cult musicians who wrote famous music, and that this article is especially worthy, as the artist notoriously goes uncredited for their original composing of the song "See the sun standing before me".

Koleko is almost entirely unknown on the internet and does not make much info available on his website, but he is significantly covered in relevant music press and other media(citations coming, dependent on time, hopefully others will contribute). There is also news which I was about to add, as a new EP is coming out soon according to the artist's myspace.

Thanks for trying to keep wiki clean but you deleted this article way too fast.

Best wishes, -Sam SamRMC (talk) 03:45, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The page you wrote can be found in this sandbox. I'm not worried about whether this page should be covered here, but when the page is created with a Youtube link, a Last.fm reference, and no clear indication of importance, it qualifies for speedy deletion in my eyes. I would encourage you to read this guide, as it may have some info to help you along. TNXMan 03:51, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's great, thanks for the link. I read YFA and thought that what I had was a start. I guess I will add more references and explain in detail how Koleko's music has been so influential despite his obscurity. Thanks again.

Penbat made a false and groundless accusation against a totally innocent editor User:Alamanth simply because they were challenging the arrant, pseudo psychological nonsense he posts to gratify his personal egomania. You can easily prove this with an IP check, I have even emailed you from the interface, from my Zeraeph account and offered to give you my landline number so that you can establish my geo-location and clear this totally innocent User:Alamanth which is what you SHOULD be doing...do THAT and I go away...obviously that is too simple and decent for you, you would rather encourage this loathsome, hypocritical bully instead. I am happy to spend an HUGE portion of Christmas doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to clear User:Alamanth's name, and, if you were an admin in truly good faith, you would be willing to spend an hour or so working with me towards that end. Rather than reinforcing Penbat. Shame on you. --109.79.245.126 (talk) 18:05, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
