83.26.49.155 and virus threats made

I just tried to access the edit diff by that IP on Yeonpyeong Island‎ and my antivirus kept blocking the connection because of malware on the page, this is the same story with all of their contribs except the one on his talk page. Asgardian sockpuppet investigation

Hi. Why was the sock investigation closed without any conclusion rendered? It's fairly clear that it's Asgardian using those socks, and he has continued to violate policy since. He has been warned at that account for resumption of the behavior that got him banned, and he has left this message on the talk page of Off2riorob, with whom he edit warred in February 2010, an action that was used as evidence in the Arbitration case that led to his ban. I closed it because, at the time, all of the IPs had gone stale. The only IP that has edited since is 122.248.156.9 and it's their first edit in a month. If you feel there is enough evidence to re-open the SPI, please do so (bearing in mind that checkuser will not link named account to IPs). TNXMan 17:49, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

I don't think either of the cited references demonstrates notability. Notability requires significant coverage in reliable sources. Neither of those sources is reliable as their content is, like Wikipedia, user-generated. – ukexpat (talk) 18:17, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

checking for improvements

Hello I'm an asshole, I've only ever had a handful of SPIs that I've opened and wondering if I'm doing anything wrong or if there is something I should do to improve in the future. I've probably spent more time fishing through diffs than I would like to admit so that I could try to be sure. I don't want to waste anyone's time including yours. Thank you,

I'm back! Sorry about that. In any case, I think the best thing anyone can do when opening SPI cases is to assume good faith. It's a trite and (on Wikipedia, anyway) over-used term, but it certainly comes in handy at SPI. I've found there are really two types of people that are investigated at SPI - POV pushers and serial vandals. Serial vandals are usually identifiable by certain actions and those cases can usually be processed quickly with a minimum of fuss.
POV pushers (or advertisers), on the other hand, require a gentler touch. Many come to Wikipedia unaware of our policies and of how the site works. Once you've been here a while (as you and I have), it becomes hard to remember how different a site this is. No ads. A collaborative atmosphere, instead of a competitive one. A neutral point of view, instead of a sell! sell! sell! view. And so on. When a new user is confronted with an experienced editor quoting policies and reverting quickly, it's easy to feel ganged-up on. So the user commits a seemingly minor offense of creating another account to provide support (after all, wouldn't this fly on other sites?). Is it intellectually dishonest? Yes - and I think they know that. But what I do not think they realize is how seriously it's taken on Wikipedia. Pointing out our relevant policies can go a long way to netting a good editor.
Now, how does this apply to you? You're certainly doing a good job keeping an eye out for Smkovalinsky and his socks, and for that, I'm appreciative. The only caution I would give you is that you can get over-enthusiastic. You can still whack the socks as they come up and do it in a way that won't scare off any legitimate new users.

No apology necessary as this is very helpful to me. You're right about the (over)enthusiasm. Since this area is new to me, there is a certain degree of excitement when digging through diffs pays off. My neighbors might have heard me let out a "Gotcha!" :) If I did it more often, it would be simple routine. For me, vandal-fighting was excitement in the beginning but is now just routine and I'm probably better at it because of it. I imagine SPI might be the same if it was old hat to me. I will bear your advice in mind and hopefully improve. Feel free to advise me anytime...your advice is welcome. Thank you,

British School of Houston

Typically primary schools and middle schools get merged into the articles about the school district or the town if there are no sources that prove notability, but high schools usually remain separate. Autoblock trouble

Could you take a look at Yoctobarryc (talk · contribs), who reports that he's caught in a stubborn autoblock? I've temporarily made him IP block exempt. The autoblock appears to be related to my block of Luthorsteele (talk · contribs) and perhaps Chris acabussi (talk · contribs), who apparently are editing from a university IP. Hi, you had CU'd this report and marked Abhishek191288 (talk · contribs) and Sreerajarasa (talk · contribs) as likely socks. However, Wikistalk shows only 3 pages in common (of 310 and 13 respectively) over an editing overlap period greater than 30 months. And even of the three common articles, only one edit is actually similar. Given that the former user is one in good standing, I find the non-technical evidence to go against any socking allegations. Is the technical evidence strong enough to over rule any non-technical observation? And, given these circumstances is an indefinite block justified? I've rechecked the material and took a much closer look. It turns out the two accounts were editing at the same time on the same ISP. However, some of the other details don't add up and it seems unlikely they are the same person. Thank you for bringing this to my attention - an unblock would be a good idea. Okay thanks, probably makes more sense for me to start a separate case based on one of the more recent socks rather than trying to link back to User:Daniel Tee 2010. The same behaviour in terms of adding false information is there with Daniel Tee 2010 but the individual has moved on to other similar articles and with the data being stale it has obviously started to become harder to link it all back. Why do you keep removing my reference to Patch.com in St. Petersburg?

It's a legitimate news site. Patch.com has a Wikipedia page already. St. Petersburg Patch is the first to go live in Florida, followed by Patch sites in Bradenton, Largo, Sarasota, etc. It's a legitimate news site. It is not Spam. What's up?

SPI Check

No, the tool can connect users to IPs, it's just that the privacy policy restricts us from disclosing that information. Checkusers will connect accounts to accounts, but not accounts to IPs. I hope this helps. TNXMan 23:54, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

What this means is that I can't connect username accounts to IPs. So, even if I did run a check, I couldn't post the results to the investigation page and I couldn't (potentially) block anyone because people could infer connections if I did. TNXMan 12:44, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Just because checkusers cannot disclose the connections does not mean administrators can't block them as socks (often known as the duck test). The privacy policy is outlined here. TNXMan 22:00, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Your deletion of DeKalb County Liners

The league it belongs to (the Prospect League) is certainly notable, as are its other member teams, so what makes the Liners any less notable than the other teams? If it was deleted over a lack of reliable sources, I will find some, so just give this page another chance, I will locate several reliable sources to make this page suitable for Wikipedia again. The article did not list any reliable sources that showed why the group was notable enough to warrant an article. There was a link to the team's twitter feed and Facebook page. First of all, you should note that, it seems you have a conflict of interest with the subject. Because of this, you are highly discouraged from editing/creating the article. Secondly, I would encourage you read our info how to edit when you have a conflict of interest. Finally, read our info on writing your first article and consider writing a draft in your userspace (something like User:Abighale/Sandbox) so you can work on improving the article before moving it to the mainspace. SPI: Mdmday

Need a refresher. Is it possible for CU to connect this account to accounts that would have been considered stale but have been checkusered before? There was a comment on my talk that there is a possibility that Mdmday is another user, User:Mrpontiac1. The IPs match and poor man's CU (autoblock) also seems to confirm that. Phrases like "has become renowned in the Polyurethane world for developing customer specific solutions to some of the most taxing issues in the industry" really don't belong in a neutrally written encyclopedia. You can write a draft in your userspace (something like User:Ericantonello1983/Sandbox). This will allow you to work on improving the page before moving it to the main article space. I found some articles related to StNotepad Touch on websites starbytecomputers and famouswhy. I have given them as reference to my article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Rodriguezjuanjose52/Sandbox .

And I also noticed that StNotepad Touch got Brothersoft editor's pick award http://www.brothersoft.com/stnotepad-touch-432035.html . Can I show that in the article with a Award section?

I'm sorry, but none of those sources appear very reliable. The Starbyte blog just appears to be a copy of the release notes. The Brothersoft link just appears to be a download page. TNXMan 12:45, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
