Jessica Karen Szohr (pronounced "Zoar"; born March 31, 1985)[1] is an American actress. She is best known for playing Vanessa Abrams on the CW series Gossip Girl.

Early Life

Szohr was born in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin as the oldest of six children[2]. She is of Hungarian and African American descent.[3]. She started modeling at age six and her first national campaign was for Quaker Oats at age ten[4], and tapped to do print ads for Kohl's department store.[citation needed] She later graduated from Menomonee Falls High School[5], and moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.[6]

Career

Jessica earned her laurels as a frequent presence on U.S. television during the 2000s. Szohr appeared in numerous guest stints in television series such as That's So Raven, My Wife and Kids, What I Like About You and Joan of Arcadia.

In 2007 she appeared in a major recurring role as Laura for six episodes in the now cancelled ABC Dramedy television series What About Brian. She also appeared in three episodes of CSI: Miami as Samantha Barrish.

In the same year, she was cast as Vanessa Abrams in The CW Teen Drama television series Gossip Girl. She became an additional series regular in the series first season after the fourteenth episode The Blair Bitch Project. The series is currently in it's third season and has been renewed for a fourth.

She has appeared in small roles in films such as Somebody Help Me, The Reading Room and Fired Up.

Szohr signed on for Dimension Films Piranha 3-D as Kelly in May, 2009.[7] The film which began filming in June 2009 is set to be released in August 2010.[8] She also has signed on to star in the indie drama Walks along with Brittany Snow and Rumer Willis which is set to be released sometime in 2011. In January 2010 she confirmed via Twitter filming has begun.[9]

Personal Life

Szohr dated Actor Rafi Gavron and reportedly had a short-lived romance with Jason Lewis.[10] In 2008, she began a relationship with fellow Gossip Girl Star Ed Westwick. She is best friends with Rumer Willis.[11] Szohr enjoys reading poetry and writing down memorable quotes.[citation needed]

Szohr is currently residing in New York.[12]
