Austin Aztex FC is an American soccer club based in Austin, Texas that was founded in 2008 by Phil Rawlins, a British entrepreneur.[1] The Aztex began playing competitive soccer in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division in the 2009 season and share an affiliation agreement with Rawlins' hometown club, Stoke City, enabling the two clubs to exchange players and the English club to scout players and hold training camps in the US.[2][3] Austin's first USL match was against the Minnesota Thunder on April 18, 2009.[2] In the 2010 season, the team will play its home games at House Park, which replaces Nelson Field as the club's home facility, and compete in the USSF Division 2, a temporary league set up by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) to resolve a dispute between the USL and the proposed new North American Soccer League.[4][5]
As of January 12, 2010[update], thirty-three players have participated in at least one league match for the Aztex.[6] This total consists of thirty outfield players and three goalkeepers. Ryan McMahen, a midfielder, holds the Aztex appearance record, having played in all 30 matches in the club's first season.[6] The club's all-time top scorer is Eddie Johnson, with five goals, while Kyle Brown holds the record for assists, having provided the final pass for six goals.[6] Despite their achievements, both McMahen and Brown were among a large number of players released from their contracts with the club at the end of the 2009 season.[7]
Players
In its inaugural 2009 season, the Aztex fielded a total of thirty outfield players, as well as three goalkeepers, who are detailed in a separate section below. Players who were contracted to the club but never played a USL game are not listed.

In soccer, the goalkeeper is the only player allowed to defend his team's goal with his hands. Of three players used in this position in the club's first season, Mexico-born Miguel Gallardo played the most games. No goalkeeper managed to play in a game without conceding a goal, known in soccer as a shutout, more than once.[6]
