Guadalupe, or Guadeloupe (Spanish pronunciation: [ˌɡwaðaˈlupe]) was originally a Spanish toponym that derives from the Arabic word for "valley" or "river" (wadi) and the Latin word lupus, meaning wolf.[1] The name referred to the river Guadalupe in Spain.
