Konijeti Rosaiah (born 4 July 1933) is the present Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.[2][3] He belongs to the Indian National Congress and held various ministerial posts over the years. He is known, especially, for his administration of the state finances as Finance Minister. He is a senior-most Congress leader in Andhra Pradesh along with Cabinet Minister and State in Charge Veerappa Moily.[4]

Early life

Rosaiah (aged 76) was born in a middle class agricultural family in Vemuru in Guntur District.[5] He graduated from Guntur Hindu College, Andhra University in Commerce. While he was studying in Guntur, he was elected as the student leader and thus entered into politics. He is everstanding legend in aryavysya community.[6]

Political career

K. Rosaiah was a political disciple of Swatantra Party leader and freedom fighter, Prof. N.G. Ranga.[7] He regularly attended the political classes conducted in Ramaneedu Raitanga Vidyalayam[clarification needed] in village Nidubrolu, Guntur district. He was elected as MLC in 1968, 1974 and 1980.

As Finance Minister

Rosaiah introduced the state budget 16 times, including seven in a row, a record in the country..[7] He served as a finance minister under Marri Chenna Reddy, Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy and Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy. In his tenure as Finance Minister in Chenna Reddy's cabinet, he ensured that teachers received retirement benefits.

As Chief Minister

Rosaiah was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 3 September 2009 by the Governor N.D. Tiwari. He had teething problems after he was sworn in as the chief minister with the cabinet, which was chosen by his predecessor Y. S. Rajashekara Reddy.

As the successor of Dr.Y.S. Rajasekara Reddy, Rosaiah faced many challenges like continuing the policies and benefits that Y.S.R. Reddy had started to poor people in his tenure as Cheif Minister. He promised the people of Andhra that his government will continue all the Benefit programs started by YSR. UPA Chairwomen Sonia Gandhi gave full support to Rosaiah, even though he didn't get the Support of his cabinet members. From day one as CM of Andhra Pradesh he is facing many agitations from his own Cabinet of Ministers and Supporters of Y.S. JaganMohan Reddy (Son of Late YSR Reddy). He is still facing the issues like Lease of Obalapuram mines, Separate Telangana by Telangana region and now for Samaikya Andhra slogans from the Costa, Rayalaseema people. Like his predecessor YSR, Rosaiah supports a united Andhra Pradesh and opposes efforts to divide the state. [8][9]
