Horner

I see the page you cited for the scientist's quote on Google Books, but I don't see Horner's larger argument re: malaria and his specifically blaming EDF, which the article says he does. I think the article should cite more pages from his book if in fact he makes the argument elsewhere. RafaelRGarcia (talk) 17:44, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Page 53 alludes to such a larger argument:
"Being an environmentalist, however, not only means never having to say you're sorry (those millions of dead Africans killed by malaria when DDT was taken away from them might deserve an apology), it means never having to prioritize."
I have a feeling he never says the argument straight out, based on what I can glean from searching in the Google Books interface. Either way, I haven't really verified the whole claim, but it was easy to verify the superficial cause for citation (the quote), which is why I put the source back in. If you think it really doesn't support the whole claim that it's being cited for, do feel free to take it back out. --Darkwind (talk) 18:13, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Reworded. The article was using very strong wording, like genocide. If Horner didn't even say that, then whoever inserted the material originally was editorializing. RafaelRGarcia (talk) 21:43, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Third Opinion on Axel Erlandson

Hi Darkwind I thought come and thank you for your opinion. I have made a suggested sentence change with refs. I didn't change it myself because if I did so, Griseum would say I had a COI and people would focus on that rather than on the content, link to sentence. Also to let you know that there are now other editors on the talk page voicing the same arguments as Griseum. One of them suggest going to Dispute resolution, which I will do in a couple of days.

If you think the sentence works and you don't mind going into middle of mind field, would you please change it on Axel's page. Blackash have a chat 01:56, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Posting broken tools is innapropriate

The page of calculators that you are linking to is broken. try your link to the "amortization calculator" tool on your directory. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rjacoby (talkcontribs) 22:10, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not "my link". The link is to the "Open Directory Project", dmoz.org, a respected directory of helpful websites. If you find that pages linked from dmoz.org that are no longer working, you should take it up with them (see the links at the top of their pages). It's considered perfectly acceptable to link to the Open Directory from Wikipedia, and more of those links are working than are not, so removing the link to the directory page is not helpful, just because one of those links might not be working. In addition, you removed the [[Category: links from the pages you were editing, which removes those pages from Wikipedia categories. If you do feel that it's necessary to remove something, don't take out half the page with it. --Darkwind (talk) 22:14, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Admiral Brown

re: Admiral Brown Thanks for cleaning up the wikisyntax. Page is now a disambiguation page for the various articles, currently numbering seven. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leonard G. (talkcontribs) 04:30, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

Devours/Daltrey/No Plan B

Hi, Darkwind. I'm wondering why you thought the Daltrey template was unrelated at Scott Devours page and deleted it. Devours is currently playing in Daltrey's No Plan B band. They did several dates of a solo tour last year and are opening for Clapton this year. This info is sourced in the article. Pkeets (talk) 17:02, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's typical for subject-navigation templates, like {{Roger Daltrey}}, to be included at the bottom of an article -- but only if the article is linked from the template. At the time I removed the template, it did not link to Scott Devours (this is how the template looked at the time), and there were no reliable sources in the article at all. So, to be honest, it looked like someone had just thrown it in there without showing how or why it was related. Now that you've added sources for his relation to Daltrey, and that the template links to the article it's included on, it's much more appropriate for the template to be included. --Darkwind (talk) 19:15, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: If you're confused about why an editor did something, it's a good idea to take a look at how the article looked as that editor saw it, before you ask them why they did whatever. In this case, that would be this revision. You added sources after I removed the template. To come back and ask me why I removed the template, because the info is now sourced, is somewhat confusing. --Darkwind (talk) 19:27, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. The question shouldn't be confusing--it's only meant to clarify.Pkeets (talk) 16:29, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hogwarts Staff

Welcome, and thank you for correcting spelling on the Hogwarts staff page on Wikipedia! However, both spellings of the word you "corrected" are acceptable.

Please familiarize yourself with American and British English spelling differences before making further spelling corrections to articles. Wikipedia has 47,576,333 registered users on this English Wikipedia. These editors use different versions of English including American English and British English. The list of dialects of the English language goes on and on.

When many styles are acceptable, avoid changing from one style to another unless there is some substantial reason for the change. It is only acceptable to change between American and British spelling if the article's topic is particular to one country or the other, or if you are making the article internally consistent.

More information is available at Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Enjoy your time on the encyclopedia. Thank you. Carl Sixsmith (talk) 19:30, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm using a semi-automated program to scan for spelling mistakes, and that is one of the listed corrections that the software makes. If you feel that such a correction is unnecessary, you're welcome to edit the list of typo corrections at the page I linked, or discuss them on the tool's talk page. You're also welcome to add {{bots|deny=AWB}} to Hogwarts staff to prevent other users of this program from making the same change in the future.
Also, I've been a Wikipedia editor for over seven years. Please don't template me - if you have something to say, say it in your own words. Thank you. --Darkwind (talk) 19:43, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers for the info on stopping the auto-template, didn't mean to cause any offence by using the template, just saves time writing your own text out. I'll add the template to the page. Carl Sixsmith (talk) 19:48, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

71.71.124.11

If you didn't write "A City Dressed in Dynamite", leave me alone.

There's such a thing as vandalism, and your edits clearly fall within those parameters. If you contribute constructively, I won't have any reason to bother you. --Darkwind (talk) 19:38, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Hi Darkwind, Thank you very much for your advice. Would you like to "adopt" me to work on projects? I would be very honored to be able to contribute to Wikipedia. Please let me know. Blair van der woodson (talk) 10:42, 17 April 2010 (UTC) Blair Van der Woodson[reply]
