Bakthavatsalam (Mohan Babu మోహన్ బాబు(Dr. M. Mohan Babu)), born as Manchu Bhaktavatsalam Naidu, is known for his variety as an actor, producer, politician and educationist from Andhra Pradesh, India. He was conferred with the prestigious National honor Padma Shri for his yeomen services to the field of Art in 2007, by His Excellency, the President of India. Moreover, he has been elected as a Deputy into the International Parliament for Safety and Peace, an intergovernmental organization based in Italy[1][2]. He is popularly called as Dialogue King, Collection King and Nataprapoorna.

Childhood and Beginnings

Mohan Babu is the eldest son of a pious retired school headmaster Manchu Narayanaswamy Naidu and Lakshmamma. He was born on March 19 at Modhugulapalem village near the banks of river Swarnamukhi, and sandwiched between two famous pilgrim centers Tirupati (abode of Lord Venkateshwara) and Srikalahasti (abode of Lord Vayulingeswara) in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. He has three younger brothers – Ranganath Chowdary, Ramachandra Chowdary and Krishna – and a sister Vijaya. He had his schooling at Yerpedu village and Tirupati. He took his degree in Physical Education in Chennai (Erstwhile Madras). After completing his degree landed a job as a physical training instructor for a brief while. In Madras he roamed the streets and went round studios, in search of opportunities to get into movies. In 1969, with his contacts with Dr Prabhakara Reddy, he joined as an apprentice under director Lakshmi Deepak. He worked in the direction department for about half-a-decade in early 1970s. During this tenure, he was introduced to Dasari Narayana Rao, who was then a script writer. When he knew that Dasari, after establishing himself as a director, was contemplating a movie, Mohan Babu approached him for a role.

Debut as an actor Mohan Babu had finally the much sought after film role when Dasari cast him as a villain in his 'Swargam-Narakam,' featuring two heroes. On selection for the role Bhaktavatsalam Naidu was transformed into Mohan Babu and the name stuck. Released on 22 November 1975, 'Swargam-Narakam,' was a great hit and ran to be a silver jubilee events.

Actor and Producer

He had acted in more than 500 films which include many films as Hero. His two sons Vishnu Manchu and Manoj Manchu are film actors, who have made their mark in the film industry.

His films include Pedaraidu,Patnam Vachina Pativratalu, Kodama Simham, Khaidi No. 786, Major Chandrakanth, Padaharella Vayasu, Brahma, Assembly Rowdy, Allari Mogudu, Annamayya, Collector Garu, Yamadonga, etc. He started his career in small roles, then donned negative characters before being cast as the protagonist in the movies. His dialogues are laced with ribald humour and randy innuendos which gained him much popularity since the 1990s. He has been rechristened Mohan Babu by his mentor, Dr.Dasari Narayana Rao, an eminent film and political personality.
