Alfredo Angulo López (born August 11, 1982) is a boxer from Mexico, who participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics for his native country.[1] He qualified for the Olympic Games by ending up in second place at the 1st AIBA American 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Tijuana, Mexico.[2]
Professional career
Alfredo Angulo is a very tough Fighter,[3] who turned professional in Arizona[4] and is Consider by many boxing analyst to be the next World Champion From Mexico.[5]. He has said that has sparred with Jesus Soto Karass,Antonio Margarito,Roy Jones Jr., and Fernando Vargas. On 17 May 2008 he defeated Richard Gutierrez inside 5 rounds to take his professional record to 13 wins, 10 by way of knockout.[6]
On October 4, 2008, Angulo defeated Andrey Tsurkan (26-3, 17 KO). Angulo, from the beginning of the round was relentless, averaging over 100 punches per round. He stopped Tsurkan in the 11th round when referee Tony Krebs stepped in.[7]
The Valentines Day Massacre Thread Angulo was scheduled to fight former champion Ricardo Mayorga on February 14, 2009. However, Mayorga pulled out ten days before the fight after demanding a larger purse.[8] Angulo fought former NABO light Welterweight champion Cosme Rivera as a replacement and defeated him by fifth round technical knockout.[9] In the beginning round Angulo was cut above the right eye. Rounds 1-4 Angulo dominated Rivera and had him pinned numerous times in the corner. Round 5, Angulo was beating on the virtually helpless Rivera. Generally a poor job done by Rivera's corner. Also, the referee should have stopped this match several times in round 3. He should have stopped it when Rivera was pinned in the corner to end round 4. He too should have stopped it numerous times in round 5. Terrible job by the referee and corner, whose primary job is to protect the safety of the competitors.
First Career Loss He suffered his first professional loss in a close match to Puerto Rican fighter Kermit Cintron in early May 30.[10] Angulo missed the press conference to that fight and actually made the trip to Florida by car. For the record, Angulo said he was sick and didn't want to use that as an excuse.
In November 2009, Angulo defeated Harry Joe Yorgey (22-1-1) to claim the interim WBO light middleweight title.[11]
Angulo knocked out Joel Julio in the 11th round of their bout on April 24, 2010.[12]
