Mid-Cheshire College is a further education college. Its main campus is in the village of Hartford, Cheshire. John Reilly is the college principal. Reilly joined the college in 2002 after leaving the Tameside College in East Manchester where he was Director of Development. The college performed exceptionally well in its last Ofsted inspection in 2008, graded as outstanding in all areas. The college has also been awarded LSIS Beacon status[1]. The college has approximately 10,000 students.

Courses

The college offers a wide variety of academic and vocational courses including BTEC National Diplomas, BTEC First Diplomas and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ). Subjects include art and design, beauty therapy, cookery, civil engineering, plumbing, and brickwork. The college also offers foundation degrees accredited by the University of Chester and the Manchester Metropolitan University. Subjects include business management, fashion, and information technology. The college promotes continuing education, too, and offers a number of adult courses, and return-to-work and study courses. The college also awards Access to Higher Education Diplomas, which enable adults with no or few qualifications the opportunity to go on to study at university.

Campuses

The site has three main sites:

  • Hartford campus, the main campus, located in Hartford, offers an extensive range of courses from art and design to travel and tourism;
  • London Road, the location for photography and fashion courses, situated on the A533 road between Northwich and Davenham, and;
  • Winsford campus, the main centre for health and social care, child care, adult learning, and public uniformed services, situated in the centre of Winsford.

Redevelopment

The college is currently undergoing a process of redevelopment with new buildings being erected to replace old and outdated ones. So far the college has opened a new £3.5m Arts and Creative Media Building at the Hartford Campus. The building was opened by Jim Knight MP in October 2008. The new £10m Winsford campus will officially open in September 2010.
