Franz Ferdinand are a Scottish rock band that formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 2002.

The band first experienced chart success when their second single "Take Me Out" reached #3 in the UK Charts, followed by their debut album Franz Ferdinand which debuted on the UK album chart at #3. The band went on to win the 2004 Mercury Music Prize and two BRIT Awards in 2005 for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. NME named Franz Ferdinand as their Album of the Year. From the album, three top-ten singles were released, "Take Me Out", "The Dark of the Matinée" and "This Fire".

Other appearances

  • "Get Up and Use Me" is a cover collaboration done with The Fire Engines, who played the band's song "Jacqueline".
  • "Swallow, Smile" is a 7" vinyl only available for those who sign up to the Franz Ferdinand fan club, features an alternate version of "Take Me Out" as a B-side.
  • A version of "The Dark of the Matinee" by Coco Freeman featuring Franz Ferdinand appears on Rhythms del Mundo: Cuba, an album with Cuban versions of recent western songs released in November 2006.
  • "All My Friends" featured on the LCD Soundsystem single of the same name. The song is a cover, rather than the more common remix, and is billed as "LCD Soundsystem vs Franz Ferdinand". It was released in 2007 and later appeared as a b-side to Franz Ferdinand single Can't Stop Feeling.
  • "No" appeared on David Shrigley's Worried Noodles, released in October 2007.[27]
  • "Hallam Foe Dandelion Blow" appears on the soundtrack of the Scottish film Hallam Foe. The entire score was provided by Domino Records and was released in 2007.
  • Another cover, of Blondie's Call Me, was released in February 2009 on the War Child Heroes covers album.
  • The band recorded a new song called "The Lobster Quadrille", which appeared on the album Almost Alice, released in March 2010.
