The Augusta Riverhawks are a professional minor league ice hockey team based in Augusta, Georgia. They began play in the Southern Professional Hockey League on the road October 21, 2010, losing to the Fayetteville Fireantz[1]and had their home opener the following evening, again losing to the 2009-10 SPHL champions, the Huntsville Havoc[2]. The Riverhawks will play their home games at the James Brown Arena, previously home to the Augusta Lynx of the East Coast Hockey League from 1998 until their folding in 2008.[3]
The "Riverhawks" name was announced on March 13, 2010 as the winning result of a fan vote.[4]
