Danny Lee Wynter is an English actor best known for his performance as Joe in Stephen Poliakoff's collection of films Joe's Palace and Capturing Mary.[1]

Biography

A graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), Lee Wynter has taken on roles in numerous productions. On television he has appeared in, among other shows, Stephen Poliakoff's 2006 collection of dramas Joe's Palace and Capturing Mary (in which he played the lead character, Joe, opposite Sir Michael Gambon and Dame Maggie Smith), the BBC television series Luther, Lynda La Plante's crime drama Trial & Retribution, the ongoing television series Holby City, and in film Edgar Wright's Hot Fuzz.[2]

His work in theatre includes the Fool in King Lear opposite David Calder,[3] Henry IV Parts 1 & 2 (all for Shakespeare's Globe Theatre), L'Avare (The Miser) for The Royal Exchange Theatre Company, Debussy's Opera The Fall of The House of Usher for The Riverside Studios, Bedlam, The Frontline, A Doll's House, and The Changing Room (a production he appeared in with his graduating drama school year at London's Royal Court Theatre while still an usher in the same building).

He has worked in radio with the writers Jon Senn and Debbie Tucker Green, and in the theatre has been an original company member in new writing projects by playwrights including Mark Ravenhill, John Donnelly and Nell Leyshon.

He is one of the founding member's of the Old Vic New Voices scheme.

Early life

Lee Wynter was born on 25 May 1982 in Essex. His mother is of Italian Catholic ancestry and his father of Jamaican and Protestant decent. He was brought up predominantly by his grandparents after his parents separated. He has no other siblings.

Schooled at Beal High School in Redbridge, Essex, Lee Wynter went on to study Clown and Mask under the theatre practitioner John Wright at North London's Middlesex University.

Inspired after a chance meeting with director Stephen Daldry while ushering at London's Royal Court Theatre, Lee Wynter was encouraged by Daldry to apply for drama school. He attended The London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art, LAMDA, graduating in the year 2006.

He lives and works in London.
