Andrew Oye (born May 10, 1974) is an award winning composer from British Columbia, Canada. He has had his music featured in shows such as Dexter, Lost, CSI, The Office, Sons Of Anarchy, 2010 Olympics, Hawaii Five O, Kath and Kim, and many others. He has also collaborated with notable musicians and actors like Barry Pepper, Ryan Hoyle of Collective Soul fame, and the late great T Lavitz of Dixie Dregs fame.
Early life
Oye was born in Tofino, BC. He began playing guitar at the age of 13. At the age of 18 he attended Malaspina College for Jazz studies. After receiving a diploma in 1995 Oye released his first instrumental album entitled "Andrew Oye and the Wankin Family". The album received critical praise from CFOX radio as well as a spot on MuchMusic Canada. From 1995 to 2006 Oye taught at various music schools and colleges throughout Vancouver Island.
Musical Influences
He recalls the first time watching Back to The Future as his reason for taking up guitar. Later on Oye heard Joe Satriani's "Surfing with The Alien" which influenced him to write instrumental music.Guitarist like Robben Ford and Brent Mason can also be heard in Oye's playing style.
Recent Works
Since 2006 Oye has been writing production music for various publishers in the US and Canada.He recently opened his own production library DirectComposer.Com. To date Oye has composed over 800 pieces of music that have been used in hundreds of productions throughout Canada, USA, Australia, and Europe. The 35-year-old graduate of jazz studies at Vancouver Island University is building an impressive list of credits on shows such as Lost, Dexter, Entourage and The Office.
Oye has also done demo songs for major music software companies like Sonoma Wire Works, Beta Monkey, and Big Fish Audio.
