WMWX (88.9 FM) — branded ClassX — is a non-profit American radio station in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. The station plays a rock music format, particularly "album-oriented rock" or AOR. The station has a number of specialty shows which focus on various genres of music including: local music, retro 60s rock, 80s Hair Metal, 60s Psychedelic Rock, Blues, Rock Legends, AOR Rock, Progressive Rock, The Beatles, Today's Rock 40, and The "ClassX Record Club". The station prides itself in the all-volunteer staff that includes live on-air disc jockeys that have a true passion for all genres of Rock Music. The station is owned and operated by Spryex Communications.

History

WMWX, 88.9 FM signed on the air with 5,000 watts on August 6, 2006. ClassX on 88.9 FM, WMWX; reaches potentially nearly 1.8 million listeners in the greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana area. ClassX is a True Rock format. The station promises a variety and exposure of new artists and their music as well as deep tracks off of old classic rock albums. ClassX is Album Rock: a mix of New Melodic Album Rock releases combined with lost Classic Rock tracks from the past 40 years.

WMWX, 88.9 FM currently airs the following specialty radio shows:

  • Hair Cuts (Mondays 8 PM-10 PM) - 1980s Hair Metal Rock.
  • Kindred Sanction (Tuesdays 8 PM-10 PM) - Local Rock.
  • Paisley Mushroom (Wednesdays 6 PM-8 PM) - 1960s psychedelic rock.
  • Indigo Blues (Wednesdays 8 PM-11 PM) - Blues and Blues Rock
  • Rock Legends (Thursdays 6 PM-8 PM) - Focusing on a specified band each week that has been a major influence in the history of Rock.
  • The Rock Show (Fridays 8 PM-11 PM) - 1970s and 1980s Lost and Classic Rock.
  • The Aisle of Plenty (Saturdays 6AM-8AM)- Progressive Rock from the past 40 years.
  • Beatles-A-Rama ( http://www.beatlesarama.com/ )(Saturdays 8AM-10AM)- The Beatles.
  • Today's Rock 40 (Saturdays 2PM-5PM)- Top 40 Countdown of Melodic Rock and Today's Rock.
  • The ClassX Record Club (Saturdays 7PM-11PM)- Album Rock, Lost Rock, Hair Metal Rock.


  • The Bedtime Snack (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 10PM-11PM; Wednesday, Friday: 11PM- Midnight)- A Classic Rock album tracked from cover to cover in a daily evening retrospective show.
