Voss is a brand of bottled water from Norway, bottled at an artesian source in Southern Norway. Voss water is available in Still and Sparkling form in glass bottles (375ml and 800ml), and Still in PET bottles (330ml, 500ml and 850ml).

The cylindrical Voss glass bottle was designed by Neil Kraft, former Creative Director for Calvin Klein.[1]

Environmental record

The company has taken a comprehensive look at the lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for all products, using the globally accepted and non-profit-created Carbon Trust Methodology. Voss has accounted for all GHG emissions from all stages of the product lifecycle, including raw material production, manufacturing processes, transportation of materials and products, and ultimate disposal. Voss is 100% carbon-neutral.[2]

Community efforts

Founded in 2008 with support from Voss, the Voss Foundation is dedicated to providing access to pure, clean drinking water to sub-Saharan African communities. The Voss Foundation’s primary targets are women and children with special focus on adolescent girls.

History

The company was founded in 2001 by two young Norwegians, Ole Christian Sandberg and Christopher Harlem.[citation needed] Voss water is bottled and marketed by Voss of Norway ASA, a Norwegian Limited Company, headquartered in Oslo, Norway. Voss is marketed in over 50 countries around the world with a focus on the United States.

In a 2007 article for Women's Health Magazine, three wine experts were asked to evaluate the taste of several popular premium bottled water brands. Taking first place was Voss bottled water.[3][4]

In 2010, the Voss board of directors consists of chairman Rune I. Fløgstad, vice chairman Dr. Reinhard Schiebeler, director Eva Kempe-Forsberg and deputy director Arne Hjeltnes. The managing team includes Group CEO Jack Belsito, CFO Jan Eystein Saeboe, President for International Sales Siri Titlestad and President of Voss Americas Patrick Larkin.

  • In the 2010 film Grown Ups, Voss is mentioned several times, often incorrectly called "Boss" by those characters who have never heard of it.
  • Voss water frequently appeared in the press conferences with delegations at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, held in Norway.
  • In 2008, the film Iron Man featured Voss water.[5]
  • In a blind taste test by Nobody Likes Onions in episode 182, no one could tell the difference between Zephyrhills Spring Water and Voss.[6]
  • In Hillary Duff's A Cinderella Story, a girl asks for Voss water at a diner.
  • In the fifth season of Entourage, Vince is offered a bottle of Voss by a fashion model.
  • In Diggnation Episode 218, Kevin Rose drinks Voss water instead of beer.
  • In Monk Episode 113, "Mr. Monk is Someone Else", Monk drinks from a Voss water bottle.
  • In How I Met Your Mother season 3 episode 12, "No Tomorrow", Lily Aldrin drinks a bottle of Voss water (in her new dream home).
  • According to The New York Times Madonna demands Voss and once refused to check into a hotel that did not stock it.
  • In The Carter Documentary, Lil Wayne mentions he is drinking Voss out of his styrofoam cup.[7][8]
  • In his 2009 album Freak Wharf, Paul F. Tompkins references Voss, saying that he likes to pretend it is shampoo.
  • In the movie Date Night, Voss water is featured on the table in the high-end restaurant where the characters played by Steve Carrell and Tina Fey dine.
