User Based Statistics

Henrik, I was thinking page stats by user would be interesting. For example, aggregated page stats for articles created by a user or change in page stats based on the contributions of a user. Please consider. Thank you! Jasonbook99 (talk) 14:22, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Stats failure?

Hi Henrik. Do I get it right that there's been a failure of the Stats tool on April 8? Even the Main page shows zero hits for that day. Is there a way to retrieve the hits count for April 8 for a particular article like Iman al-Obeidi, for instance? Regards, Cinosaur (talk) 12:37, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page and all article traffic statistics

Dear Henrik, Some problem with the Article traffic statistics of Anna Hazare of April 8, 2011. Kindly have a look. Thanks.-- . Shlok talk . 13:53, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All stats grok statistics, I think. No stats for the Main Page on April 8, or any other page I see. Maile66 (talk) 14:25, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Occassional stat failures are common, but not two in a row

Stats are still showing zero, this being the second day in a row. I usually don't even look at stats anymore but I just made a good article and I was watching it's traffic trends for the first week. Daniel Christensen (talk) 03:25, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Third day in a row, never seen that, can I assume that the stat thing, which has always said is a beta service and may dissappear at anytime, has done just that? Interesting to see how many people count on it, though. Daniel Christensen (talk) 04:13, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It was down for several days last month (the posts about it are above on this page). It happens occasionally and then the problem gets fixed. Henrik just doesn't reply here every time someone reports a problem, but he reads the page so I'm sure he's aware of the problems. Just give it a few days, I'm sure it will be back up again. --- Crakkerjakk (talk) 05:07, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Since its inception what's been the longest consecutive downtime? Because it's now on day four. When the stats fail, does it stop counting in the middle of a day so the days surrounding the failure are less than the real views? Or is it just all or none? Daniel Christensen (talk) 01:10, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Appears that the site where the raw data used to be stored -->http://dammit.lt/wikistats/archive/2011/04/ has been redirected to http://dom.as/. If this was where the toolserver account was pulling the data from, then its not anymore. Calmer Waters 01:42, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The raw data is there through. First, you can go to http://dammit.lt/wikistats/ where the raw data is stored. There are 24 files for each day in 1 hour intervals. You can then manually extract the stats for an article, download the files, uncompress them, then using a text editor, find the article in each file. There are two numbers after each article name, the first is the number of page views for that article in that hour. Warning through. The download can take a considerable amount of time. Hallo Henrick. Please, may you tell me if the Wikipedia article traffic statistics is working? Thank you very much. --Antonella (talk) 22:37, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

page statistics

Hi, I liked the page statistics that you were evidently responsible for providing. Any particular reason that you decided to stop providing them? Thanks for you help, 173.70.113.42 (talk) 23:11, 12 April 2011 (UTC) Ooops. Forgot I wasn't logged in...again. Smm201`0 (talk) 23:13, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia article traffic statistics does not appear to be working as the number of hits on the date of the main page DYK appearance of the above article does not show-up. Can you kindly tell me how to get this information? Thanks.--Nvvchar. 09:19, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with article statistics page

There seems to be a problem with the article statistics page (http://stats.grok.se/). For the last 4-5 days, every article's page view number has been "0", even for heavily visited articles like Barack Obama. I find it hard to believe that zero people visited the Barack Obama article in the last 5 days. (I read the pageview FAQ, but didn't find any information about why there would be 0 hits). Hello I am curious why the counts for Leopold Seyffert page are zero for several days. Just curious thanks Robert Seyffert (talk) 13:29, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page View Statistics

The page view statistics on the article Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast dropped to "0" on April 8 to current and appears to lost link with ability to track data. I am tracking this and have for the past several years and now the data stream appears to be broken.... How does that get restored?

Thanks..

France

Hello ! I appreciate too. But why on french Wikipedia.fr the "Wikipedia article traffic statistics" indicate "0" fot all pages ? ( 8 days without traffic statistics [1]).77.202.60.69. Any way, think you 4 ur work ! (talk) 22:02, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the beginning of the answer, which I got in my pdd :

Traffic stats

All the monthly page views since 2011 aren't appearing. 2010 2011. Until Henrik fixes this I suspect the page ranks will continue to stay the same. Must be some kind of Y2K error. Marcus Qwertyus 01:49, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So... let us just be a bit more patient ;-)

--Bibliorock (talk) 00:56, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Out of order !

The stats are really out of order...But why ? Please, give us some explanations. Thanks.

Wikipedia article traffic statistics

Good afternoon. Page poseshayut many people, but in the statistics for several days, wrote that the page no one looks. [2] Thanks in advance. Sincerely, 77.52.52.192 (talk) 13:20, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I tried it again today and it worked this time. Contains Mild Peril (talk) 02:46, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the page view statistics include attempts to view red links. I created a new article (Xenon dioxide) and made 3 edits, and then I looked at the page view statistics and was surprised to find that "this page" (which I created today) was viewed 12 times in the last 30 days, some views 3 weeks ago. The only explanation I can find is that these views were attempts to view the (previously red) link to Xenon dioxide from the dab page at Xenon oxide. Dirac66 (talk) 00:12, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

article statistics page

Hi Henrik, I like your statistics page enormously because I can control myself a bit. Now, these numbers of visitors, does they also include wikipedians, even myself? Nice to hear from you.--Cruks (talk) 21:53, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, it includes everyone no matter if they're logged into a Wikipedia account or not. Killiondude (talk) 06:07, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are you okay?

I noticed your last user contribution was March 23, and since you're generally very active on Wikipedia I just wanted to make sure you're all right. Flatterworld (talk) 13:31, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He hasn't been "generally very active" for a while now. :-) Killiondude (talk) 20:31, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for sharing, but he's been editing on a roughly weekly basis. This current gap has been three weeks. Can you spot the difference? Flatterworld (talk) 02:14, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
His editing patterns have been erratic over the last year (or more?). Prior to January (roughly 400 edits ago), made a few edits in September, then it reaches back to March. The edits you were looking at are a bit more myopic than what I was looking at. Killiondude (talk) 06:05, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Henrik has not been around on a regular basis on this page in a while - real shame imo Ottawahitech (talk) 18:12, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

M734 and M734 Fuze Wikipedia article traffic statistics

Your "Wikipedia article traffic statistics" is outstanding. My question pertains to reading statistics when two titles have been assigned to one article. The article titled "M734" was changed after a couple years by Wikipedia editors to "M734 Fuze". Anyone searching the title "M734" is automatically directed to the article renamed "M734 Fuze". Your Wikipidedia article traffic statistics are maintained for both the obsolete and current titles. The monthly numerical statistics are different for the two titles. To estimate the actual number of article viewings, do I add the "M734" statistics to the "M734 Fuze" statistics? georgelucey@gmail.com Luceyg (talk) 17:59, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No. Anyone looking at M734 is automatically redirected to M734 fuze so ignore the page views for M734. By the way,the stats tool is broken. Banaticus (talk) 20:24, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're kind of wrong. Page views are logged by URL, no matter if the page is a redirect. If they visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M734 the "hit" will be counted on that page. See the FAQ for more answers to questions like this. Killiondude (talk) 20:30, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Articles' history pages

I searched your archives and couldn't find anything on this. Are views on an article's (or similar) history page recorded? I'm thinking not, since a history page seems to be a user-requested "action", but I was just curious any way. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 22:28, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding wikistats data format

Hi,

I downloaded the one of the gz-compressed wikistats hourly dump. There are 4 fields separated by spaces. Can you please tell me what each of these fields represent?

http://stats.grok.se once a question

Hi! Thank you very much for this tool. Could I ask you to advise me with some questions?

The first one is next -
these two pages [4] [5] shows that the article uk:Ленін_Володимир_Ілліч had a huge boom of interest between 16.11.2010 and 11.12.2010. This looks quite strange - we didn't have any event that could inspire such arise these days. Could it be a bug or something like that?
And the second one if you don`t mind -
is it possible to explore top pages for whole the year? We are most interested in Ukrainian and Finish wikipedias statistics. I would be grateful if this would be possible. Our interest is to arise popularity of projects. Thanks in advance, --A1 (talk) 17:27, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia article traffic statistics display error

There seems to be a problem with the traffic statistics for some months. For instance, there is traffic on Feb 29 '09. Most months in 2009 are missing traffic on the first of the month. From looking at the raw counts for Aug 2010, I think the plots have been shifted one day into the future. Samesense (talk) 18:59, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia article traffic statistics

I'm contacting you to see if you can fix the page view statistics for "2009–2011 Toyota vehicle recalls." It was created in Jan 2010 but doesn't have page views until Feb. 2011.

Please let me know at mdistaso22@gmail.com Thank you. 71.58.93.100 (talk) 00:33, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Research Paper

My name is Dale Carty II and I am a cadet at the United States Coast Guard Academy. I am writing a research paper on the mechanics of Wikipedia. I saw your "Wikipedia article traffic statistics" engine which rose a few questions. How are you able to view the amount of visitors to a specific page? Is it possible to find or locate who made corrections to a Wikipedia page? Are there any consequences that occur when people place incorrect information online? Thank you in advance for your timely response.

Very Respectfully, 4/c Carty —Preceding unsigned comment added by DLCarty (talkcontribs) 17:50, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The source data that Henrik uses is actually posted by domas, a tech guy for Wikimedia. (You might also be interested in the FAQ for Henrik's tool). Too bad our page view article isn't very explanatory, but it does cover the very basics. To respond to your second question, you can view the "history" tab on any page to see who has made what edits. See also Help:History. As far as people posting incorrect information, on Wikipedia we can block users who continue to post incorrect data after being warned not to. Förfrågan

Halloj!
