No Predictions yet?

As far as i know, this basin has the first tropical weather event in the northern hemisphere, most of the times. So by this time there should be a whole lot of predictions right?? --Anirudh Emani (talk) 11:29, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I wish i knew of a few that published in January but usually there is only one (PAGASA) and so far all ive seen is that they reckon there will be more (intense) storms this year.Jason Rees (talk) 12:19, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection?

Why? The season hasn't had its first storm yet, so to speak, and I don't believe any sort of vandalism would be going on here for that reason, so why is it locked? Rye998 (talk) 01:11, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

People have been adding in random false tropical depressions so another user took the decesion to request semi protection. It hasnt been locked for established editors, just newbies and ip address.Jason Rees (talk) 23:36, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, sorry. I hadn't noticed that, but unless these vandals can calm down a bit, then I'd just leave the article closed up from these vandals for the time being, I guess... Rye998 (talk) 21:07, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, one more thing — until our first storm does form, should we put the {{currentdate}} template in the storms section? Rye998 (talk) 22:31, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, it is not required, When we say "no storms have formed yet" We automatically understand that no storms have formed as of now. --Anirudh Emani (talk) 09:42, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Season starting late???

Hey, it is too late already for the season to start. So is this season gonna be less active than last year?? --Anirudh Emani (talk) 11:26, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

usually the first named cyclone is in April or May. - グリフオーザー (talk) 22:12, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, i dont know much, because i once saw tropical cyclones form in the basin right from jan(2009). --Anirudh Emani (talk) 05:22, 26 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion is not improving or maintainig this article in any way. See WP:FORUM. If you have any speculations on the activity of this season, put them Here, not here. Rye998 (talk) 21:10, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wha...

What happened to the seasonal summary table? Rye998 (talk) 20:05, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Songda's wind-speed...

Uh, is 445 kmph entirely accurate? Even for ten minute winds, that's insane... Windrays (talk) 15:48, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah it was a bit of Vandalism.Jason Rees (talk) 22:48, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

trouble editing Songda (Chedeng)

Hello Everyone, for the past few days the infobox for Songda / Chedeng has been showing hugely exaggerated statistics -- category 5, winds of 275 MPH, etc. Clearly inaccurate. I have tried to fix the infobox but not managed to do it properly. There was a weird-looking warning -- IIRC, "do not plonk as STY as it is unofficial" -- which I suspect was some kind of vandalism, as when I deleted it the calculated values started looking normal again. Usually I edit Atlantic pages. Evidently the system here is slightly different (IE the infoboxes might calculate in a different way, I wouldn't know). Obviously I am out of my depth here but anyone who does know how these work, and can put up accurate info including the proper SSHS strength, would be doing a public service. Best wishes, Pufferfyshe (talk) 18:52, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually the note was not vandalism and was added by me for numerous reasons including to avoid vandalism. Also the only problem with the infobox has been people keep adding what they believe to be the correct windspeed to the infobox and not the proper windspeeds (10-min: 105 kts 1-min: 140 kts), we have tried to keep on top of it but we do have other things to do.Jason Rees (talk) 01:23, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Never seen vandalism so bad that one day I had to fix things on the article for ridiculous wind speed information. - グリフオーザー (talk) 07:23, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to both for the clarification. I apologize to Jason Rees for removing the tag. Pufferfyshe (talk) 17:51, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My guess is that there is a bot that overwrites hurricane info boxes. I will inquire on weather project page. Student7 (talk) 21:48, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
....And so Songda is Category 2, not Category 5. Correct? 99.95.11.224 (talk) 21:50, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
