Air Napier is a Third Level Carrier Cargo airline from New Zealand that was founded in April 1993 by Alan Coombe, Gary Peacock and John Finlay, with a single Piper PA-34 Seneca. The following year Air Napier Ltd was formed and Gary Peacock subsequently became the sole shareholder.
History
Operations began serving Napier to Wairoa, Gisborne and Tauranga. The Tauranga courier service only lasted a couple of months and was closed. In 1997 the airline expanded into flight training using the Piper aircraft while the Cessna 172 aircraft continued to be used for general charter work.
With the grounding of United Aviation in 1997 Air Napier began operating a courier run from Palmerston North through Napier and Wairoa to Gisborne. Those operations required more aircraft and in 1998 Air Napier purchased a Piper Cherokee and Piper Pa23-250 Aztec, which was also used from late 1998 till September 1999. These flights were mainly for NZ Post.
The main operation of this small airline is freight but it also carries passengers, offers charter flights and other services. [1]
