Sonic Universe is a comic book series set within Archie Comics's Sonic the Hedgehog continuity, designed to expand the horizon of that fictional universe. Sonic Universe deals with various characters throughout the fictional universe, including Shadow the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna and many more. The first title arc is titled "Living Weapons" and will feature Shadow and Metal Sonic. Sonic The Comic the UK produced Sonic the Hedgehog comic series by Fleetway produced a similar series of stories called "Sonic's World" from issue 26 onwards; it, too, expanded the fictional universe, following various characters in the Sonic universe on their own adventures, which eventually crossed over into the core series on numerous occasions.

Sonic Universe is published monthly by Archie Comics alongside its parent title Sonic the Hedgehog. The first issue was released on February 25, 2009[1] and now fills the role of "second monthly Sonic comic" that was left open by the cancellation of Sonic X.[2]

Issues

Arc 1: The Shadow Saga (March 2009 - June 2009)

"Shadow chases Metal Sonic across Zones until he, with the help of Blaze, manages to return to Mobius Prime. Shadow is then recruited into a team with Rouge and, with Sonic, saves the city of Megaopolis. Shadow and Rouge are sent to bring E-102 Gamma (from Sonic Adventure) onto GUN's side while E-123 Omega (from Sonic Heroes) is ordered to destroy him by Eggman. Omega succeeds, but Gamma manages to merge his soul into Omega, resulting in a better, nicer robot. Shadow, Rouge, and Omega enter the Special Zone of Fiest's Domain and recover a Chaos Emerald.

Arc 2: 30 Years Later (July 2009 - November 2009)

30 years after the final victory of Eggman and all their enemies, Sonic is king and Sally his queen. They have two children, Sonia and Manik, as does majority of the other Freedom Fighters. There is a celebratory meeting for the anniversary of Sonic's victory which is disrupted by an assassination attempt from Shadow's followers. Many of the old Freedom Fighters are captured, leaving it up to Sonic and the new generation of children to save the day and defeat Shadow, who has claimed the throne--and Sally--for himself.

Arc 5: The Tails Adventure (June 2010 - September 2010)

Tails takes the spotlight in this brand new adventure! The twin-tailed fox treats his friends Bunnie and Antoine to a long over-due honeymoon on the remote and idyllic Cocoa Island… but not remote enough to keep a brand new villainous force from spoiling the party! Who are these foul fowl? What do they want? And more importantly, will our heroes survive their first encounter with the fine-feathered fiends?!

Arc 6: Treasure Team Tango (October 2010 - January 2011 )

Blaze the Cat comes to Mobius to find a missing Sol Emerald and meet Amy Rose and Cream the Rabbit and Cheese the Chao

Only a few Freedom Fighters, hardier versions of Mobius Prime's, are left, along with the Sword of Acorns. Silver joins the fight and, though all seems lost and all but one Freedom Fighter transformed, Silver is able to defeat Enerjak in an explosive battle and drain his power with the Sword. He leaves, letting the surviving Freedom Fighter Lara-Su use the power to revive her friends, people, and the world.

Arc 8: Scourge: Lock Down (June 2011 - September 2011)

Evil Sonic, Scourge, is a prison joke, often being bullied in the No Zone (A Zone that's 90 degrees turned, appointed with watching over all cross-Zone activity). His partners from Moebius get captured on purpose so that they can free him. Scourge convinces several groups to join him and they all break out, taking over the prison with enough time for him and a few others to escape the Zone Cops.
