Yen Sid is the name of the sorcerer in the "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment of Walt Disney's 1940 film, Fantasia. A man with a long, white beard and robes that extended to the floor, the animators had also added qualities and traits found in Walt Disney (most notably the raised eyebrow). Even the sorcerer's name, Yen Sid, is Disney spelt backwards. He does not utter a word in the segment. In Fantasia, he has Mickey Mouse as an apprentice, and while the sorcerer is asleep one night, Mickey borrows his magical hat, and uses it's power to accidentally create an army of brooms to carry water for him. As a result of the building being flooded, Yen Sid is awoken, and he easily causes the water to dissipate and then shoos off his inept apprentice. This segment appears again in the film Fantasia 2000.

Yen Sid appears in the Disney/Square Enix video game Kingdom Hearts II. He lives in the Mysterious Tower near Twilight Town along with Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty who give Sora, the game's main protagonist, his new clothes. Yen Sid finally has a speaking role, provided by Corey Burton. He also instructs Sora as to the enemies he will face. In the game, Yen Sid is described as having instructed Mickey Mouse in the use of magic. He is a greatly revered sorcerer, almost worshipped by Donald Duck and held in high regard by many prominent characters. He was targeted to be turned into a Heartless by Pete, but thanks to Sora's efforts the Heartless never got near him. He also gives the characters their Gummi Ship, which they had been without since the events of the first Kingdom Hearts.
