School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada (SPA Vijayawada) is a higher education institute located in Vijayawada, India specializing in education and research in the field of Planning and Architecture. It forms a part of the league along with the other two SPAs in India: the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal and the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi.

It is a National Resource Institute of India.

History

School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada was established on 7 July 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, as an autonomous institution.

It is a premier Centrally Funded Technical Institution (CFTI)[1] under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India for excellence in the fields of Planning and Architecture.

Campus

School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada is currently at Gudavalli, few kilometers away from Vijayawada main town.

Academics

SPAV offers two undergraduate programs, a four-years Bachelor of Planning and a five-years Bachelor of Architecture.

Facilities

Academic Facilities

Apart from regular classrooms, student have access to various studios and well equipped, air-conditioned computer labs for CAD and GIS work with fast computers capable of delivering good graphics. High speed, free internet access through Wi-Fi, anywhere in the campus, helps students stay connected with the world and gather information for their projects and research. While most lectures are in classrooms, certain lectures and presentations are delivered using LCD projectors in lecture halls.

Personal and Social Facilities

Students, at SPAV, are offered decent and affordable on-campus accommodation, throughout their course, by the School. While this accommodation is optional, all students including locals, prefer the School's accommodation.

The Cafetaria serves healthy and hygenic breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea and snacks in the evening with choices of Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian meal plans on specific days and is common to staff and students.

Students are encouraged to take up sports and literary activities in their free time and facilities for the same are provided on the campus.

International Collaboration

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norwegian: Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet, NTNU) at Trondheim, Norway and the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada has adopted a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in furtherance of the mutual interest in the field of education and research and for increased international cooperation.

Annual festivals

Every year the students and administration of SPAV together organize a number of festivals and competitions.

Inyan

Inyan is the annual festival of SPA, Vijayawada. It is held in the month of March every year.
