Rise of the Guardians, formerly titled The Guardians of Childhood, is an upcoming 3D computer-animated action adventure comedy film which will be based on William Joyce's forthcoming The Guardians of Childhood books.[1] It will be produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Paramount Pictures, and is set for release on November 21, 2012.[2] The film stars Chris Pine, Isla Fisher, Hugh Jackman, Tom Kenny, Alec Baldwin, Jude Law and Dakota Goyo. It is being directed by Peter Ramsey and co-directed by William Joyce,[3] the creator of Disney's 2007 film Meet the Robinsons. The film is being described as "a contemporary fairytale based on existing fairytale characters".
Plot
The film features a group of heroes from various childhood stories - Santa Claus (Alec Baldwin), the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), the Sandman (Tom Kenny), Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and Jack Frost (Chris Pine) - who join in an adventure to stop Pitch the Boogeyman (Jude Law) from sending the world into "eternal darkness".
Cast
- Chris Pine as Jack Frost[3]
- Isla Fisher as Tooth (Tooth Fairy)[3]
- Hugh Jackman as E. Aster Bunnymund (Easter Bunny)[3]
- Tom Kenny as The Sandyman (Sandman)[3]
- Alec Baldwin as Nicholas St. North (Santa Claus)[3]

Production
In 2005 Joyce and Reel FX launched a joint venture Aimesworth Entertainments to produce CG-animated feature films,[5] one of which was set to be The Guardians of Childhood,[6] but it never got realized.
In November 2009, it was revealed that Joyce was co-directing a feature film adaptation, then titled The Guardians, at DreamWorks.[7] The final title, Rise of the Guardians was announced in early 2011, along with the first cast.[3]
Originally, the film was set to be released on November 2, 2012, but DreamWorks Animation pushed the film to November 21, 2012 to avoid competition with Pixar's upcoming film Monsters University which had been pushed to November 2, 2012 to avoid competition with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.[2] Monsters University has now been pushed to June 21, 2013, with Wreck-It Ralph taking its place.[8]
Release
Under distribution by Paramount Pictures and production by DreamWorks Animation, the film is set for a November 21, 2012 release in American theaters.
