WP:VG Assessment

  • Two screenshots are listed as PD.
  • First sentence of Gameplay reads that the game is based on the same features as other MMORPGs. Explain, link it up with the rest of the article, or if that's impossible, move it somewhere?
  • What's shadow knowledge, and why is it a redlink?
  • Second paragraph: I'd like to see examples of all three kinds of skills that show the difference between them, preferably of something similar.
  • Jargon: "mass-pvp" (abbreviation) "dynamically", "prefabricated" (only has the intended meaning to those familiar with the subject matter). Remove and use other words, or explain.
  • Expand upon its influence on later MMORPGs. Search for developer interviews that list this game as an influence, etc.
  • Merge Free Play Program with Development, and what's the Nutum Wars booster pack?
  • The last two external links (wiki.aodevs.com and www.ao-universe.com) do not meet WP:EL and I have removed them.

Updated gameplay section

I updated the gameplay section in preperation for a FA nomination in the future. Hopefully this is better organized and easier to understand. I tried to include as many things as possible with dense paragraphs while still following the WP:VideoGames content guidelines on what is acceptable. A lot of the ideas came from this version of the Final Fantasy XI article which, as far as I can tell, is the only featured article about an MMO. Sebquantic (talk) 18:31, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"It's as complicated as you want it to be"

Re: 'mechanics are "very complex"', section title is a quote from a player on the subject. Hope to find something like that in a review, but do not expect to. Anarchangel (talk) 09:54, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think it should be reworded? I might be showing a little POV with that one. Sebquantic (talk) 20:00, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect Info

"Anarchy Online was the first large MMOG in the western market to offer indefinite free play with restricted content" This is in no way true, runescape has been doing it for many many more years, and is a western market large MMOG, I will remove this sentence from the article :)

-- And Tibia (video game) has been doing that for many (well, 4 to be exact) years longer than runescape :p Divinity76 (talk) 18:10, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

new engine

It looks like the new engine will mostly likely come out this year. If anybody is reading this, here's a list of things (off the top of my head) that need to be changed when it is released:

  • 1. Replace all in-game screenshots with equivelant shots from the new engine. Old shots aren't appropriate since the article is in present-tense, and the game is still online.
  • 2. Add one comparison image at the end of the "History" section showing a new engine screentshot and an old engine screenshot side-by-side; that way the reader's know what it used to look like.
  • 3. Remove last paragraph of History section (the one about the engine release date and dev blog), and replace with information about the release. Leave the paragraph about OGRE since it was pretty significant.
  • 4. Update last sentence of lead, and any other references to the engine in the rest of the article
  • 5. If the new engine gets any significant media coverage, add relevant quotes to the "Reception" section.

Any comments or other ideas?

rewrite

Rewrote / restructured much of the article to improve writing style, clarity, redundancy and objectivity.

Not sure how to get the "too long intro" warning at the top gone, but I fixed the issue.
