Avacyn Restored is a Magic: The Gathering expansion set scheduled to be released May 4, 2012.[1] It is the third set of the Innistrad block. The tagline for the set is "Ignite the Dawn".

An animated trailer for Avacyn Restored has been released in English and Japanese. [2]

Mechanics

Two new mechanics will debut in Avacyn Restored[3]:

  • Miracle is a new keyword word found on instants and sorceries. Spells with Miracle have a cheaper, alternate casting cost that can be paid if the spell was the first card drawn during the turn.
  • Soulbond is a new keyword mechanic that is featured on creature cards. When a creature with Soulbond enters the battlefield, it can be paired up with another creature, granting bonus abilities to both creatures until one or both creatures leave play. Conversely, if another creature enters play, it can be paired with an unpaired creature with Soulbound.

The following mechanic returns from the preceding Dark Ascension set:

  • Undying is a new keyword mechanic that is featured on creature cards. When a creature with Undying dies, if it had no +1/+1 counters on it, it returns to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
