Speedy deletion

Go and delete TurboCASH first and than come back to OSfinancials Good luck. --DeTandarts (talk) 16:48, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with A7 on this one, and have deleted it accordingly; but I don't agree with G11. There may well have been promotional intent in posting this, but WP:CSD#G11 is for "Pages that are exclusively promotional, and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic", i.e. actual promotional content, and this was factually written, with no glowing adjectives.

Also, when you tag an article for speedy, please copy to the author's talk page the notice which the speedy template generates for you, towards the bottom. Otherwise the newbie author doesn't know what happened, thinks he pressed the wrong button, and probably just puts it in again. If it is a new author who has not yet had a Welcome message, you should give one before the speedy notice, which makes it less WP:BITEy and gives the author links to advice so that he may do better next time.

{{firstarticle}} is a good one. It has one peculiarity: unlike most templates, you don't need to add ~~~~, firstarticle supplies a signature for you automatically.

Keep doing New Page Patrol - a tedious but essential activity! Regards, JohnCD (talk) 13:10, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed your recent edit to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Athabasca University Students' Union does not have an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks! Me-123567-Me (talk) 15:24, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A7

Please remember the limitations of A7. They are applied strictly as written. Falling for kelli is about a book, not the author. You seem to be always trying to list as many reasons as possible, and though it often helps to list multiple reasons, it confuses the contributor when you list ones that do not apply. first, keep in mind the possibility of G12, especially for promotional articles. If the web site is listed, check it; if it is omitted, look for it and check it. Copyvio is more serious than lack of notability or even promotionalism, and should always be listed if applicable. Then, if it is unquestionably promotional as well, include that, to answer in advance the contributors likely question--but what if I gave permission? And only if it is strictly speaking a person or organization of web content, use A7--and only if the person or organization is absolutely insignificant. If nothing fits well, use Prod. When you use Prod, explain the reasons as if it were speedy, and follow up to see if the prod is unreasonably removed-- if so, make sure you're right, and then use AfD. This is the best sequence to quickly get deleted what needs to get deleted, without confusion and extra work for anyone. You should aim for an accuracy level of at least 90% , increasing to 95%--few people do much better than that. And it isn't just the % -- really try to avoid real bloopers, for they will be remembered. DGG ( talk ) 03:40, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Typically what I do before I nominate something like this (i.e. a book) is wikify the article. Clean it up, bold the title, and link anything appropriate. For example here, by wikilinking the author, it is easy for anyone coming after to see that since Scott C. Voss doesn't have an article, it may be reasonable that he isn't a notable author, and therefore his books may not be notable. This is just to get an indication, and is not etched in stone, maybe he or the book is notable, and just doesn't have an article yet. After that I do a quick search for sources, as there is a chance that the person who wrote the article just doesn't know Wikipedia's notability, sourcing, and formatting standards (typically the case with new editors). If sources come up, they get added, tweak the article a little, and move on, if nothing comes up, nomination for deletion (either CSD, or PROD, whichever is more suitable). The whole process takes a little longer, but a number of articles can be saved, rather than deleted (see this version, of Blair (poet) (probably nominatable under {{db-spam}}), vs. what it is today (short yes, but certainly a notable topic). As DGG says, speedy deletion criteria are very strict, and lots of people (new and experienced editors) nominate the articles for the wrong reasons (for example, I wouldn't say that Falling for Kelli meets the listed CSD criteria). I received my lesson from DGG on Literature on Wikipedia over three years ago now, it took a while for me to get the concept, but it did change the way I handle the deletion process.--kelapstick(bainuu) 04:20, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice. I'll be a bit more careful. West Eddy (talk) 11:48, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When you put up an article for deletion, make sure you notify the creating editor. This give them a chance to defend the article or make improvements to it. I notified the editor for the Anderson article. Bgwhite (talk) 05:10, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Falling for kelli

Hello West Eddy. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Falling for kelli, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: there is no doubt promotional intent here, but the language is neutral and G11 is only for "Pages that are exclusively promotional, and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic." I have PRODded it. JohnCD (talk) 09:39, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy tagging

Please be more careful with your speedy tags. Eurothermen Resorts was indeed spam, and WP:CSD#G11 was entirely appropriate, but you tagged it WP:CSD#A9 as well, when it was about spa resorts and nothing to do with music. It is important to get speedy tags right, so that the article author gets the right message about what was wrong with his article - that is one reason against using "db-multiple" if there is a definite primary reason for deletion, because the "db-multiple" message doesn't give the author any reasons. Proposed speedy deletion of Adam Mitchell (songwriter)

I hope that I have provided adequate external references as to his notability to avoid any further consideration of speedy deletion. I still have more to add, particularly in relation to his later songwriting with KISS members.

Your Twinkle seems to have templated me, repeatedly, regarding this article. All I did was delete the copyvio spam and create a redirect. You'll want to discuss this article with User:Uri1234, he being the editor who created it from the redirect. Thanks. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 12:18, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Again, please make sure you discuss this with Uri1234. I got nothing here. Thanks. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 04:01, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: How Old Are You?

Hi West Eddy. This was an incorrect tagging, as there was relevant content in the infobox, so A3 does not apply. Regards, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 01:12, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comox Bay Sailing Club

Hi West Eddy, i recently created the article on the Comox Bay Sailing Club and i encountered some confusion with the Speedy deletion process. I uploaded the page and shortly after i did so the first speedy deletion box appeared, i contested the speedy deletion and the speedy deletion box was replaced by a box saying my article had been created. there was also a clean up box with some very specific suggestions that i quickly took action on (uploading of images). After i completed the clean up suggestions i thought that would be the end of it but shortly after i did so another speedy deletion box appeared so i contested the deletion asking the administrator for some clarification of what was happening. a day passed and now the page has been deleted without the administrator getting back to me. Some clarification form you would be appreciated.

Here are a couple of articles i found that are also about local sailing clubs Wallasey Yacht Club, Brighton Sailing Club. West Cheshire Sailing Club
