List of Damages episodes
Damages, a legal drama television series, premiered in United States on July 24, 2007 on the cable network FX.[1] The series, created and produced by brothers Todd and Glenn Kessler with Daniel Zelman, revolves around Patty Hewes (Glenn Close), senior partner in New York-based law firm Hewes and Associates, and her protégée Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne). The series involves high stakes litigation with class action lawsuits involving severe damages.
The first season of the series debuted on July 24, 2007[1] and consisted of thirteen episodes concluding on October 23, 2007.[2] The second season was delayed due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, and premiered on January 7, 2009.[3] The season, again consisting of thirteen episodes, ended on April 1, 2009. The third season premiered on January 25, 2010 and aired its finale on April 19, 2010.[4] On July 19, 2010, DirecTV announced that, after months of negotiation, Damages would be picked up for two additional seasons consisting of ten episodes each to be aired on the Audience Network beginning in 2011.[5]
Every episode title is a line of dialogue spoken by a character in the episode.

Season 1 (2007)
Most of the season follows two different timelines. The primary timeline begins with Ellen Parsons' (Rose Byrne) recruitment by Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) to "Hewes & Associates" and follows proceedings of a class action lawsuit against Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson) by his former employees, whom Patty represents. The initial episodes follow Patty's attempts to capture potential witness Gregory Malina (Peter Facinelli) through Katie Connor (Anastasia Griffith). The arc further details Malina's involvement with Frobisher's lawyer Ray Fiske (Željko Ivanek) and the pressure Patty brings to bear on Fiske on Malina's subsequent death.
The narrative includes multiple flashforwards of the alternative timeline, set approximately six months after Ellen's appointment, until both timelines converge in the penultimate episode of the season. The alternative timeline details the attack on Ellen, her arrest for the murder of her fiancé David Connor (Noah Bean), and the subsequent murder investigation.

Patty hires Ellen despite Ellen's having missed the interview. Ellen is assigned to the Arthur Frobisher case. Frobisher offers a settlement of $100 million with the help of one of the foremen of the employees, Larry Popler (Victor Arnold). When the employees reveal that they had earlier decided to accept such an offer, Patty pretends to fire her second-in-command, Tom Shayes (Tate Donovan), for not having known about it. David proposes to Ellen. David's sister, Katie, reveals to Ellen that her upcoming restaurant is being financed by Frobisher. Ellen wonders if Patty hired her simply because of her relationship with Katie. Patty intimidates Katie, making her believe that Frobisher is after her. In the future timeline, Ellen is found covered in blood. On inspecting her apartment, the police find the dead body of David Connor. | ||||||

At Ellen's birthday, Katie gifts her a pair of Statue of Liberty bookends. In the light of Katie's appearance as a potential witness, Patty asks her clients to reject the settlement for the moment. Patty asks Katie to give her a complete and accurate account of her time in Florida. Still intimidated by Frobisher's people, Katie signs a confidentiality agreement with Frobisher. Katie finally admits to Patty that she lied earlier and tells her that she had one night stand with Gregory Malina while in Florida. Patty offers Ellen a new apartment. In the future timeline, the police collect one of the bookends as the murder weapon and Ellen is shown handling it. | ||||||

When Patty and Ray Fiske are called by the judge about the Frobisher case, Patty is asked to come up with a substantial reason to continue with their litigation by the end of the week. Patty receives a hand grenade delivered to her through the post. Seeing this as possible death threat, Patty takes 24-hour protection. Patty has Tom investigate Gregory Malina. Patty's husband Phil (Michael Nouri) has an accident when he finds another hand grenade in his car. Ellen has to skip her engagement party when she is stuck delivering the brief to the judge. Patty's son Michael (Zachary Booth) tells his school counselor about Patty's dream (in which she is assassinated) as if it were his. Patty has him transferred to a reform academy when she discovers that he planted the grenades. Katie perjures herself during deposition after Gregory intentionally provides her with incorrect information. Patty, knowing all along that Katie was never a witness, lets this happen so that Frobisher will withdraw his settlement offer. Patty also finds out that Gregory owned shares of Frobisher's company in 2002. David tries to fend off advances from Lila (Carmen Goodine), granddaughter of his patient. Tom explores alternative job opportunities. In the future timeline, Katie is shown the body of David and sees Ellen through the interrogation window, realizing that her brother and her broke off the engagement. | ||||||

In the future timeline, the police cannot verify Ellen's claims about the attack on her. Gregory Malina is issued a subpoena in the Frobisher case. Fiske's failed attempt to cancel the subpoena causes him to advise Gregory to leave the city. Despite Patty's convincing him to appear at the deposition, Gregory flees. Tom and Ellen think that Patty suspects that Tom tried to hire Ellen while he was planning to start his own law firm. Patty offers her son Michael emancipation papers when he refuses to come home from reform academy. In the future timeline, Tom meets Ellen in the police holding cell. George Moore provides Ellen with information about Frobisher's past criminal case in order to force Frobisher to settle the case. Gregory visits Katie and explains why he provided her false information. Gregory also makes a videotape confessing his relation with Ray Fiske and Moore's involvement in Frobisher scandal. He is hit and killed by a car outside Katie's house on Moore's instructions. Lila DiMeo harasses both David and Ellen. In the future timeline, Ellen, still in jail, urges Tom to locate Patty. Season 2 (2009)
FX renewed the series for a second season that began airing in January 2009.[16] It was originally scheduled to begin airing during summer 2008, but due to the Writer's Guild Strike, it was pushed back, resulting with the production for season 2 starting exactly 11 months after the series premiered on FX.
The second season, like the first, follows two different timelines. The primary timeline follows Patty, Ellen and Tom Shayes (Tate Donovan) as the firm goes up against an energy company who have engaged in unethical practices. A former lover of Patty's, Daniel Purcell (William Hurt) brings the matter to her attention but then inexplicably backs out, leaving Patty up against UNR CEO Walter Kendrick (John Doman) and his fierce lawyer Claire Maddox (Marcia Gay Harden). Meanwhile, Ellen works with the FBI to bring down Patty, while also seeking revenge on Arthur Frobisher for his presumed role in her fiance's death. Ellen is unaware that Patty is suspicious of her, and that Frobisher's criminal connections appear to extend to her new friend Wes (Timothy Olyphant).
A second timeline takes place five months later, when Ellen meets with an unknown person in a hotel room, and subsequently appears to shoot them.

Patty is putting efforts into her new charitable foundation when she is approached by Daniel Purcell, a man from her past, who requests her to represent him. Working for two FBI agents (Mario Van Peebles and Glenn Kessler) now, Ellen encounters Wes Krulik at a group therapy meeting. She also visits Frobisher, who survived the attack on his life and is recovering under strong security. Patty tells Ellen about her still-born daughter Julia. Patty is called to Purcell's home when his wife (Paige Turco) is found dead. In the future timeline, Ellen is shown shooting at an unknown character. | |||||||

Patty takes Purcell's case. He tells her about a toxicity study of a chemical compound he conducted which yielded very negative results, which were suppressed by his firm. Patty initially transfers the infant-mortality case to Tom but then asks him to reject the case to help her in the Purcell case. Ellen tells Wes about her visit to Frobisher, upon which he advises her to stay clear of Frobisher. Wes is revealed to be following the Frobisher case very closely, including David's murder. Patty deliberately leaks information from her office to find out that Ultima National Resources is behind creation of toxic compound. In the future timeline, Ellen has a liaison with Wes Krulick, following which she meets Tom who gives her a handgun. | |||||||

FBI detectives ask Ellen to back off her investigation but she nonetheless decides to find how Purcell and Patty are related in the past. She uncovers that Purcell served as expert witness in two past trials of Patty, the first one seventeen years ago. Patty tells Ellen she had a liaison with Purcell on their first meeting. Ellen correctly deduces that Purcell is father of Patty's son Michael. Patty asks Purcell to undergo a polygraph test after his wife's murder investigation reveals a case of domestic violence. She has Purcell arrested in order to force him to retain her as his lawyer. Ellen gets a call from Katie who would like to meet her and her new boyfriend. In the meantime, two men working for Kendrick raid a reporter in West Virginia (Matthew Davis) who is investigating water toxicity for Purcell and take away his camera and cell phone. While Patty works to clear Daniel Purcell of his wife's murder, Ellen and Tom head to West Virginia to gather information in the case against Ultima National Resources. Ellen and Tom locate a reporter that Daniel Purcell was in contact with, and the reporter gives them a sample of the water taken from Ultima's plant. Patty gives the sample to Daniel, who promises to test it and also testify against UNR. At a preliminary hearing, Daniel surprisingly changes his testimony when Patty puts him on the witness stand. Ellen returns to Patty's apartment for a party to celebrate Tom's tenth anniversary at the firm. Patty and her son Michael argue over the fact that Michael writes about his father, Daniel Purcell, in his college application essay. Ultima announces a proposed merger—Patty tries to get an environmental officer to delay the merger (by showing him Daniel Purcell's original report). Patty's husband Phil is revealed to be having an affair. Phil assists Patty by looking through Ultima's proposed merger and realizes that Ultima is actually over-paying for this acquisition, thus leading Patty to suspect that Ultima is after something else. The FBI and Ellen hatch a plan to make Patty trust Ellen even more. Season 5 (2012)
