Note regarding Wells International School changes

I reverted your a portion of the changes you had made to this page (for which you had cited "tone down promotional material") due to the requirement laid out by the International Baccalaureate when referencing a school's status as an IB candidate school. (See http://www.ibo.org/school/candidate/) I did leave out the links for the Facebook and Twitter pages according to your changes, though I did return the link to independent reviews. To date, there simply haven't been negative reviews added to that site, which does not justify its removal as an external source of information regarding the school. Please let me know if you disagree. Cheers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuruzovich (talkcontribs) 13:49, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted your revert, as most of the material was clearly promotional. I have also removed any reference to the International Baccalaureate, as the presentation requirements laid out by the organisation are unacceptable in a Wikipedia article. . . Questions about The Sarah Jane Brain Foundation deletions

08:37, 11 April 2012‎ Mean as custard (talk | contribs)‎ . . (18,199 bytes) (-44,790)‎ (remove trivia).

Just was hoping you could give me a reasoning for the deletions.

The changes mainly involved the trimming of embedded lists and external links. Lists of trivia are discouraged by Wikipedia, as they tend to swamp and detract from the main content of the article. Any particularly significant items from the lists could be summarised in prose form. . . Mean as custard (talk) 21:33, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about [A2E] deletions

As the section began with "At the heart of America II lies a commitment to total customer satisfaction. . . America II is committed to fulfilling the quality needs of our customers", it was clearly intended as advertising. A mention (not a list) of certifications may be acceptable if a reference to a third-party independent source shows it is significant.
  • Also, other pages like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heilind_Electronics list articles, so I thought that it is okay to list articles when properly pointing them to the source, can I have those back? or can you tell me what is wrong with them, so I can fix.
I have fixed this article as external links are not encouraged on Wikipedia, per guidelines on WP:EL.
  • I listed citation to the "one of the largest independent companies" statement, is [Electronic Sourcing] not considered a legit reliable source?
I couldn't find this in the reference given.
* The Top 10 Independent Distributors, Electronics Sourcing North America - June 2011 - page 24 by Gina Roos — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thadson (talkcontribs) 12:48, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also same page lists linkedin, facebook and similar links. so why were deleted from my page, is there a rule about this?

Please let me know, so i can improve the article properly. Thanks, Thadson (talk) 11:18, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

linkedin, facebook, twitter and similar links are not encouraged, as they are not considered "reliable" by Wikipedia. Mean as custard (talk) 11:55, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Volunteering under "Wishaw" (Town)

Can you please make sure that article Volunteering under "Wishaw" (Town) will not be removed, or categorised as advert, which isn't. Volunteering is free of charge service and provides many opportunities for the local communities, which are listed in the very article..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wishaw#Volunteering

From time to time somebody removes/deletes this article which is a bad idea considering a fact that 30% of Scottish population is or was involved in any shape or form of volunteering (information from General Register Office for Scotland).

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.15.67 (talk) 12:07, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you saying that phrases like "To find about more about the benefits of joining us. . ." do not constitute advertising? Spam removed again. . . Mean as custard (talk) 12:09, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have removed that entry now: "To find about more about the benefits of joining us.." Cheers,

All right, it reads less like an advert now, but still fails on several criteria. Wikipedia is not a directory. References must be given to show the notability of the subject. Bare external links are against Wikipedia policy. . . Mean as custard (talk) 12:34, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, (Orangemike) said that "this is not a real estate listing service!" however under churches section someone listed all the churches in Wishaw, but in your opinion it is wrong to list all services of the local volunteer centre..

Well done! I gave up. A a member of the local community I can't update wiki. It's not allowed. My proactive behavior it is not good enough. I was only trying to provide better information to the local community.

Bye

Copied from Wikipedia:Grief:

There are five stages of grief which every Wikipedia spammer will go through when his content is removed. These steps are a natural and timeless part of life, but it may be helpful to know what to expect and how to cope. It can be difficult to come to terms with the realization that one's business, interests, or existence in general are not relevant to the rest of the world in the form of a Wikipedia entry.

The five stages of grieving are:

  1. Denial: "This is not spam. My website/article is important/relevant/useful/reliable/unique/spectacular."[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
  2. Anger: "How dare you do this to me?! You have no right to censor me! I am going to report you!"[8][9][10][11] [12]
  3. Bargaining: "Well, if I can't have my site/article here, neither should that other guy."[13][14]
  4. Depression: "It's very sad to see that a great site like Wikipedia is so very unfair."[15][16][17]
  5. Acceptance: "I am leaving Wikipedia forever. It's your loss. Goodbye, cruel world."[18][19][20][21]

Blanking a User Page without fair warning for a first violation and a debatable one at that

Dear Mean as Custard,

While I understand that people are prone to abusing open communities and someone has to police it, a fair warning would have made me change the user page immediately, why blank it?

Just a little quote from the Wikipedia: User Pages >>>

"Users believed to be in violation of these policies should first be advised on their talk page using Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia.

I noticed that your user page may not meet Wikipedia's user page guideline. If you believe that your userpage does not violate our guidelines, please leave a note here and we can discuss it. As an alternative, you may add {{Db-userreq}} to the top of the page in question and an administrator will delete it, or you can simply edit the page so that it meets Wikipedia's userpage guidelines. Thank you. when immediate action is not otherwise necessary."

Please note it says SHOULD First be advised. It doesn't matter now, just venting my frustration at editorial power abuse. Your contribution by blanking my user page was not constructive and you should be aware of that. Mean as Custard, being anonymous does not mean to not have responsibility. This is a very minor issue, but your transgression made me look into your reputation online and found at least one reference to abusive behaviour from you and it being like mud on wikipedia's respectability.

When a page includes links to the user's own company offering search engine optimization and the like, I tend to shoot first and forget about asking questions. . . Mean as custard (talk) 08:22, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:Thebeeskeeper

Hi. You are doing good work, but please remember to inform users of the page removal you have done and why. For example, you removed spam/advert from User:Thebeeskeeper but you did not leave them a notice of what and why. I just left them a {{Uw-advert2}} so they understand what they did wrong. Thanks. -- Alexf(talk) 12:05, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You could help a lot

You could help a lot, indeed I am surprised you have not spotted some of them. Please see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Helpalot. The hall mark of these accounts is that they create a user page about a mythical company which usually reports: "there are <ref> tags on this page, but the references will not show without a {{Reflist}} template or a <references /> tag". And the real give away is that they are all founded by Judy Ellison. If you spot any more, tag as hoax instantly and ask me or Diannaa (talk · contribs) to block the account. (It would be useful if you took on admin rights so that you could see these deleted articles. Failing that, it would be useful if we could e-mail you.) — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:20, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I had noticed some of these; they seemed a little strange but mostly harmless. I will keep a look out. . . Mean as custard (talk) 17:12, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No go accounts

Another one for you to watch for: user names Ngochoang*. Advertorials written in bad English but advertising US companies. MO is to create an account, write one advert and then create a new account. So no point in checking accounts created before this message - just watch for new ones. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:32, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited DAI, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dai (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Impending deletion of blackjack treasure

Hi there,

I have recently added a wikipedia review of a game on Blackjack.com - Blackjack Treasure. I received your message regarding its impending deletion due to No indication of Notability...

If I add a few citations/references to the game and the site within the article, will this be enough to keep the article? If not, I'd appreciate some guidance as I feel most of the article fits with the guidelines?

Thanks
