Rival Sons is an American blues-rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band has digitally self-released one album and also a self-titled EP, both through Earache Records, before marking their full label debut (also on Earache) [1] with Pressure & Time in June 2011.[2]

History

Before the Fire (2008-2010)

Formed in June 2008 the line-up for Rival Sons was completed when singer-songwriter Jay Buchanan joined the band. They recorded Before the Fire, and digitally self-released it in June 2009.[3] The single Tell Me Something, from the album was used in a television campaign for Izod Indy car racing.[4]

In 2010 the band opened for Alice Cooper, several USO shows with Kid Rock, AC/DC in Las Vegas, and a televised performance, centre track, at The Indianapolis 500, May 2011 {{citation}}: Missing or empty |title= (help). The band played CMJ in New York in 2010[5]

The band signed with Earache Records in 2010, who released Pressure & Time in June 2011. The album was written, recorded, and mixed in just 20 days, a process the band says is to their liking as it ensures a rawness for both the listener and the band.[6]

Rival Sons played a showcase in London at HMV’s Next Big Thing at the Camden Barfly on February 12, 2011, with Sons of Icarus and Vintage Trouble.[7]

Rival Sons advocate classic rock and roll.[8]

The track Get Mine was featured in a Jeremiah Weed premium malt beverage television advertising campaign showing an arm wrestling competition.[9]

Pressure & Time and "Head Down" (2011-present)

Rival Sons played in Dallas for the NFL's Super Bowl kickoff party at Aces & Angels Salute to the Troops hosted by Gene Simmons from KISS on Wednesday February 2, 2011.[10]

The album artwork for Pressure and Time was created by graphic designer Storm Thorgerson who has also designed artwork for Led Zeppelin, 10cc and, most notably, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of The Moon.[11]

Rival Sons supported Judas Priest on the UK leg of their 2011 Epitaph World Tour including a performance at High Voltage Festival.[12]

Rival Sons has toured with Evanescense in 2011 and started their 2012 U.S. tour dates, also with Evanescense, in Clemson S.C.

Rival Sons begin touring with Black Stone Cherry at the beginning of March on a European Tour.

Rival Sons was named the iTunes "Rock Breakthrough Band" of the Year in 2011.[13]

According to guitarist Scott Holiday, the new album, to be released in fall 2012, has the following vibe. "100 people were polled after listening, and they all said the EXACT same thing: Like being chased by ninjas.. while jumping a '71 Dodge Charger out the back of an airplane..through a ring of fire..only to come to a cushiony landing in a pit of 100 dollar bills, womens under garments, and jelly donuts...and polar bears. Some people changed the car or the donut..but same outcome. But it's hard to really nail it down. It could just sound like Chuck Berry on a bad acid trip."

On June 1st, it was revealed that Rival Sons' new album is called Head Down, and will be released in late August. [14]
