You could go to the Cleanup Taskforce, but the articles are in fairly good shape. I'll go though them if I get the time. Hut 8.5 19:39, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've done some work on that one. For a lot of things there is no hard-and-fast rule as to how the article should be written, so I've left a lot of the original text there. It would be good if you could provide an infobox for the article - see some other warship articles for examples. Hut 8.5 20:12, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to WP:Ships!

I noticed you joined WP:SHIPS today, and wanted to drop by and welcome you. Your new articles are looking nice. A small request per convention, for the ships which served in the US Navy: rather than the naval jack, we use the {{USN flag}}. The syntax is just {USN flag|year} with double curly braces. Also, a question: do you have some reason for starting the infoboxes after the intro to the article? It doesn't look bad to me, but it does look different from most ship articles; an awful lot of the Royal Navy articles don't even have an infobox, so I don't know if you were aware that infoboxes are usually the first thing in the article. Captain class frigates

Yes, that's the kind of thing I was talking about. Make sure you cite all sections thoroughly. The Wikipedia citation guidelines and the Military history WikiProject citation guidelines. Carom 15:26, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looks good now. If you want to go for a GA-Class which i believe you could in the future, you might want to read WP:LEAD. The lead section should summarise the whole article in about three paragraphs. You might need to tackle the number of redlinks as well. Well doen so far!! Woodym555 00:18, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, i noticed there were a few!! Good luck with them, i will add some stubs if i come across some pertinent information. Good luck with the article and if you need help don't hesitate to ask. Woodym555 00:28, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I would echo Woody's comments about the lead - you may also find it useful to have a thorough copyedit by another user when you have finished major text additions. Carom 01:13, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!

Captain class / DE page

I'd suggest joining WP:Ships, that's the main wikiproject I associate with, and there's a lot of people both knowledgeable on the subject and in the finer points of Wikipedia etiquette, the Manual of Style etc. I'll have a wee squint at the article regarding your suggestions just now. Emoscopes Talk 22:10, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have a wee look later when I get a chance. Lenton covers the D-day conversions in a separate section of the book (under Landing Ships rather than Frigates), which I've yet to get round to incorporating into the article. I'll see if there's anything additional that it can lend to the article. Emoscopes Talk 13:26, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you added Captain class frigate to the Review page, so I've taken a cursory look at it. It's quite an impressive article; the amount of information far exceeds most ships class articles I have seen. I would like to give it a full copyedit soon.

I thought I would go ahead and mention some recurrent issues I noticed in my brief read-through:

  • citations should come after the punctuation at the end of a sentence.
  • there are 3 builders listed in the infobox, yet 4 are mentioned in the article.
  • ship types (destroyer, corvette, submarine, etc) have been indiscriminately capitalized at times; I believe these should always be lower case.
  • in section titles, only the first word should be capitalized, aside from any proper names ('Royal Navy alterations' yes, 'Normandy Invasion' no).
  • in the U-boat sinkings table, 'lost' and 'survivors' have been inconsistently capitalized; they should be lower case.

My preference would be not to just clean up grammar, but to copyedit it with FA criteria in mind, as the content is certainly approaching that level. I know you are still working on it though, so let me know if/when you want me to dig in. Maralia 02:49, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just made a first pass at the History section. A couple things I wanted to mention:

  • Take a look at what I've done with the first paragraph, last couple sentences. My intent was to end that section with the 'half the cost' statement, as I felt that was where the emphasis should be, but I'm not entirely satisfied with how I've rearranged it. Let me know what you think; maybe you had a good reason for ending with the armament change.
  • I think the content about the return of the ships to the US after the war would perhaps be better placed in a separate section at the end, so as to chronologically follow after the tables describing their service to the UK. It might be worth a brief mention in the lead, also.

Moving on to the other sections now, if I can get the time while my son naps. Maralia 20:21, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PD images

There are pd images of the Captain class if you know where to look. I'll hunt one up in a bit for the article. Benea (talk) 02:00, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simulpost - I just posted to your talk page. Thefrood (talk) 02:06, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the justification was a bit weak, though I understand what you mean by the modifications. That's the sort of thing that will really hold up your attempt at an A class, with wranglings over how far the fair use can be extended. But I've provided a free use image so there should be no issue. Benea (talk) 02:13, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

My Grandfather is a survivor of HMS Bullen sunk on December 6th 1944. I have a few images that might enhance the page you created. I would like to upload them but am unable as a new user.. and to be honest I find the site very confusing!!

Research and correspondance surrounding HMS Bullen has been a great passion for him over the years and he would undoubtably be able to offer more information, although he is elderly nowadays and no longer enjoys great health. At very least I would like to email you the pictures I have so they may be uploaded to the page, and my Grandfather has many more..

I look forward to hearing from you if this is if any interest to you.

Many Thanks, Adam Keeler. Akajaykay (talk) 19:37, 7 September 2010 (UTC) one.tequila.more@gmail.com[reply]

Mässdräkt

Finished translating the Swedish article at Mess dress - you might also find page 43 of UniR FM interesting; it contains an English-Swedish glossary of many of the terms in question (both American and British). Cheers, I learned more than I ever wanted to know about dress rules: for an example, with a suit one must wear black shoes after 6pm. I am still not quite certain about some of the types of collar, I should have probably called my mum to ask.  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 07:28, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Extremely nice work, thank you very, very much for this --Thefrood (talk) 08:31, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A pleasure, cheers.  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 08:43, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OED

I have access to the online OED through my library card. I believe many public libraries now offer this kind of service. You should join, it gives me access to many other useful sources besides the OED. By the way, I need to own up to an error, the wave meaning of roller actually is in the OED, I was erroneously looking at the summary page, not the full entry. SpinningSpark 10:45, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I do have a library card, my comment was not that you checked but the speed of the check (I actually assumed you used something like HighBeam). --Thefrood (talk) 10:54, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thefrood, I'm beginning the copy-edit you requested for the above article at the GOCE request page. Please feel free to contact me, or correct or revert my edits if I'm doing something I shouldn't. I'm sorry you've had to wait a while for the copy-edit. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:16, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks --Thefrood talk 00:33, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No worries; I'm now done. Actually another editor, User:Folklore1, worked on the article just before me - I hadn't checked the history before I began. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 01:33, 1 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reference improvement

Thanks for the help with SK. Any reason you are not using the authorlink parameter? example --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:01, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did (Subtelny, Orest (2000). Ukraine: A History. University of Toronto Press. ISBN 978-0-8020-8390-6), I admit that I only linked the one that was already wiki-linked and I did not check to see if any others could be - my bad. If Leszek Podhorodecki was previously linked and I forgot to re-link I apologise. --Thefrood talk 00:28, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping with this! Cheers, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:39, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think ref at Constitution of May 3, 1791 could use some of your shortening magic? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 20:16, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll copy it over to a sandbox and try to work some magic over the weekend --Thefrood talk 23:04, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
