systemic bias

This topic should be much bigger, but a lack of Jamaicaians on English Wikipedia keeps it a stub. Please help Wikipedia:WikiProject Countering systemic bias by expanding this aritcle.

i agree there is a limited amount of jamaicans out here on the wiki, but i'll pledge to help grow the base. Now there are some typographical and factual errors on this page i plan on correcting to foster a factual cultural exchange.

Jamaican cuisine in Los Angeles?

I LOVE all foods from all cultures... well, mostly. Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian, French, Italian, South American, Mexican, Medditerranian (sp?)... etc. Whenever I can, I try new food... Ice Cream with Coconut Milk?

I don't know of any Jamaican brand of ice cream that uses Coconut Milk as its base instead of dairy milk. We do have many different flavours of ice cream, including coconut, but they are made with milk. Wimsyp 04:38, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was surprised to see a notice on top of this article saying that this article may not be notable. I added a link to prove that Jamaican Cuisine exists outside Wikipedia, and hopefully validates that Jamaican Cuisine is, in fact, notable. --WisTex (talk) 06:13, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What Is Allspice?

I just returned from a visit to Jamaica, and learned a little bit about the people, language, culture, and food while there. This sentence about allspice is entirely false: "I am not sure as to the claim that allspice was present for the local Arawak people to use, since these spices had to be introduced to them, since most of the spices in allspice are native the Southeast Asia." Allspice is not a blended concoction of other spices, but the name of the berry of the Pimenta dioica tree. In Jamaica, where the highest quality allspice is produced, both the berry and the tree are called "pimento" harkening back to the European "discoverers" of allspice who mistook the berries for black peppercorns. Today, all commercial production of allspice is located in the Americas and the islands of the Caribbean (Antilles), proving that allspice is native to the New World, and not native to anywhere else, including Southeast Asia. It would certainly have been available to the Arawak people.

Also, another inaccuracy, tangential though it might be to the topic of the page, Columbus was not stranded for two years, but just a few days more than one year, from June 25, 1503 until June 29, 1504, although he would not set sail for Spain until September 12, 1504.

Kitchen Nightmares

In Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay visited Kingston Cafe in Pasadena, California. Its owner Una Morris said Jamaican food can't be made of just fresh ingredients.
