Minor edits, again

I'm trying my best to assume good faith here, but this is not an appropriate use of the minor edit label. Likewise, the edit summary you specified was completely insufficient. — Hex (❝?!❞) 17:49, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The "RK" in the edit summary stands for "Rüdesheimer Kaffee". Please revert if the edit is wrong. — O'Dea (talk) 19:46, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm aware of that. A cryptic acronym of content you've added to an article is not a valid edit summary. Please familiarize yourself with the correct use of the feature. — Hex (❝?!❞) 14:01, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Something really helpful like this, perhaps? Go here – which you should have already done, by the way – and learn about edit summaries and then come back if you want my help. — O'Dea (talk) 14:07, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Touch a nerve, did I? Keep taking the piss and see what happens. — Hex (❝?!❞) 18:55, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The nerve touched was yours, wasn't it? Because pointing out your hypocrisy is not "taking the piss". Go read the edit summary information then come back and tell me precisely what part of it you think I violated (hint: not any of it). Then we can have a discussion. — O'Dea (talk) 19:43, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, time out.

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for abuse of editing privileges. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

You can take this break from the editing to study the part of Help:Edit summary that says

  • Summarise. Summarise the change, even if only briefly; even a short summary is better than no summary.
  • Explain. Give reasons for the change, if there is a reasonable chance that other editors may be unclear as to why it was made.

and consider how you ought to have described the addition of textual content to a page. — Hex (❝?!❞) 21:15, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Spideog (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I have been accused incorrectly of not complying with edit summary "policy", but it is not a binding or mandatory policy, as a proper reading of the suggestions shows, particularly the section that says, "This is an information page" and "it is not a policy or guideline". The page itself is filed under Category: Wikipedia information pages, not Category:Wikipedia policies. The possibility of making edit summaries compulsory has been discussed in the past, but for now it is optional.

In addition, if the block is not removed shortly, I shall instigate a formal complaint against the administrator, Hex for petty harrassment and belligerence because, essentially, Hex warned me, "Keep taking the piss and see what happens" and then blocked me because I would not back down in the face of his misplaced aggression. I was not blocked for failing to provide edit summaries because the record shows I have a near-100% compliance with the non-mandatory suggestions anyway, even though it is not a binding policy. Hex lost his temper because I showed him to be a hypocrite. He should not arbitrate this unblock request.

I was incorrectly attacked for "talking the piss". I demand that this accusation be withdrawn because it is untrue; it is merely defensive bluster by someone exposed in his own inconsistency; and because it is an utter reactive misreading of my position by an editor who is hasty and insufficiently reflective in his reading. — O'Dea (talk) 21:41, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I don't see any serious problems with this user's edits, however I see a serious problem with this user's block. Max Semenik (talk) 23:04, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Block

This is the most flagrant misuse of tools I've seen for a long time. Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, not to punish users...supposedly. RashersTierney (talk) 22:47, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Rashers. The administrator over-reacted, using a sledgehammer to fix a non-existent problem, since I almost always provide edit summaries...and they are not even required by Wikilaw! The block accuses me of needling him, but he repeatedly needled me to comply with a non-existent policy. He just lost his temper because I cited an instance of him failing to comply with his self-invented rule. — O'Dea (talk) 22:52, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree the admin in question appears to have 'lost his temper'. I would also suggest this block be lifted to allow tempers to cool all round, before a poor initial decision is compounded. RashersTierney (talk) 22:58, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you to all concerned. Justice tastes sweet. Happy new year. — O'Dea (talk) 23:28, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited R445 road (Ireland), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tipperary North (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Blocked on the whim of a single admin

A barnstar for you!

Your resilience and quality of argument in standing up to that inappropriate block are to be commended. Edwardx (talk) 23:17, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please let me or another admin know if Tajsevelle (talk · contribs) continues to disrupt that article. A WP:SPA like that either gives up, broadens their interest or gets blocked for trying to promote the artist. Toddst1 (talk) 14:40, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nancy Richardson continued to disrupt the Taja Sevelle article with two edits even since I explained the difficulty at her talk page on December 29th. She immediately reverted to one of her many other WP:SPAs, Quarkhadron, and added more material under that user name, avoiding use of Tajsevelle following my posting. Richardson (aka "Taja Sevelle") has been using a variety of WP:SPAs and shows no sign of quitting the practise. She adds huge amounts of trivial personal detail to "her" article and has been refusing to acknowledge Wikipedia rules since early 2012. This is just one example of how bad the problem is (be sure to scroll all the way to the end). This is even worse.
Her many WP:SPAs include: Entertainment17, Gishinu, Lastlaff, Quark7776, Quarkhadron, Quarkhadron7776, Rainonariver, Tajsevelle, Tajsocial, 24.11.218.42, 69.246.125.98, 99.170.99.49 (the latter three are in the Southfield-Oak Park area near Detroit, where she lives). — O'Dea (talk) 09:09, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've issued a couple of blocks. Let me know as other socks pop up. Toddst1 (talk) 17:31, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comic characters categories

Supporting characters that are part of that franchise. That way, images of Loki, for example, could be placed in Thor and his cast, images of Catwoman or Robin could go in Batman and his cast, etc. Nightscream (talk) 18:08, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your block

Hi. I'm asking ArbCom to desysop the admin who blocked you here. I have named you as a party and you are welcome to comment if you wish. --Anthonyhcole (talk) 22:54, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Arbitration motion regarding User:Hex

Resolved by motion at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case that:

The Arbitration Committee has considered the request for arbitration concerning Hex (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA)'s block of O'Dea (talk · contribs). There is no evidence of a significant, recurring problem with Hex's use of his administrator permissions. However, Hex is:

(A) Reminded that he must obey the community's "involved administrators" policy;
(B) Admonished for blocking O'Dea when no block was appropriate; and
(C) Reminded that he must be fully responsive to valid criticism by the community of his actions.

For the Arbitration Committee, (X! · talk)  · @866  ·  19:46, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

River Ferta

hey mr o dea, not sure why you changed the spelling of The River Fertha, it is mentioned in songs with a h....can also be seen in old maps as the Fertha, and is still seen on maps as the Valentia river...obviously you are unfamiliar with the area Angealt (talk) 01:28, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, Mr. Angealt, I based the change on official sources, the Placenames Database of Ireland and the official Ordnance Survey map. That modern OS map agrees with an old OS map from the 1840s. I have also been to Valentia. Sometimes places in Ireland have local names that differ from the official names. — O'Dea (talk) 01:39, 20 February 2013

ordanance survey map of Caherciveen in 1900 shows Valentia River....Cultural map of iveragh published in 2009 shows Fertha spelling...ive lived in Caherciveen all of my life never ever saw Ferta ever...Caherciveen and Cahirsiveen are both accepted spellings as are Valentia and Valencia...Kerry county council also spell it with a h....do you want to change it back or shall I...?
