Angela Kristine "Angie" Miller (born February 17, 1994) is an American musician, vocalist, and singer–songwriter.[1] She was a contestant on the 12th season of American Idol, where she finished in 3rd place.

Early life

Miller was born and raised in Beverly, Massachusetts. She is the daughter of Guy and Tana Miller, and younger sister of Jonathan Miller.[2] As of 2013, Miller's parents pastor at Assemblies of God church, known as Remix Church, which is located in Salem, Massachusetts.[2]

When Miller was a child, doctors discovered that the protective covering over her eardrum was no longer there. She has had two surgeries to insert tubes in her ears. A month before her American Idol audition in New York in September 2012, she was fitted with silicon spray ear plugs. She is partially deaf, with 20 percent hearing loss in her right ear and 40 percent in her left.[2]

Miller graduated from Beverly High School in 2012. She was a member of the school choir for four years and the honors vocal ensemble for one year. She performed in multiple school musicals, appearing in the role of Miss Dorothy in a rendition of Thoroughly Modern Millie.[3]

Before her American Idol debut, Miller served as one of the lead singers of the worship band at Remix Church. An active member in her father's church, she supported the church by leading music groups.

Overview

Miller auditioned in New York City, with "Mamma Knows Best."[4] In the final round of auditions held in Hollywood, she played the piano and performed her original song "You Set Me Free", which has been viewed over 3.7 million times on YouTube.

Angie covered Nobody's Perfect by Jessie J during Las Vegas Round, and received positive reviews from the judges. On March 7, 2013, Miller was voted into the Top 10,[1] following her performance of "I Surrender" by Celine Dion. After the tabulation of public votes, it was announced that she was one of the night's top three contestants, along with Candice Glover and Kree Harrison.[5] On April 3, 2013, Miller performed a rendition of "Bring Me To Life" by Evanescence; the following night, public votes revealed that she was named one of the top three contestants along with Lazaro Arbos and Kree Harrison.[6] She performed Halo during the Top 5 and received critical acclaim from the judge panel. Randy Jackson has praised her vocal talent, stating her tone is similar to Hayley Williams's, (Paramore's lead singer). She is always being compared with Miley Cyrus because of their very close similarities.

On May 4, Angela Miller was given a "homecoming parade" in her hometown of Beverly following her being named one of the top 3 on Idol. After weeks of not being in jeopardy in elimination, Miller was eliminated on May 9, 2013, leaving Harrison and Glover to compete in the season 12 finale.[7]

In the page called American Idol controversies, Millers elimination was counted as controversial.

Miller is also the third person who finished in third to not have been in the bottom, following Danny Gokey and Melinda Doolittle
