The artwork for the album is a photograph taken by Søren Solkær Starbird just after midnight behind the Barrowlands Ballroom in Glasgow. Talking to NME, drummer Paul Thomson said, "We wanted to get a Weegee vibe – that famous New York crime scene photographer from the '40s and '50s."[3] Subsequently, it is part of a series where the band are taking photos with photographers in different cities they end up in. On the band's blog, they mention the series of photos as 'imaginary crime scenes, invaded by the photographer', and 'a slice of night frozen by flash'.[4]

The album was announced on 16 May 2013 with a teaser trailer video along with updates from the band's social networks, revealing the cover art, the album title and the full track listing. On the same day, the album and was also made available to pre-order from Domino in various formats and editions.

In addition, Domino will be releasing Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action - The Passport Edition. Limited to 500 worldwide, The Passport Edition features a deluxe edition of each physical format of the album, all 7”s and 12” singles and access to the highest quality audio files possible as well as exclusive tracks and content.
