Tales of Symphonia Chronicles (テイルズ オブ シンフォニア ユニゾナントパック), known in Japan as Tales of Symphonia: Unisonant Pack, is a video game HD remastered collection of the Tales series, developed by Namco Bandai Games for PlayStation 3. The game will be released in Japan on October 10, 2013, and internationally early 2014.[1]

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles includes both the PlayStation 2 edition of Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, both games originated from Nintendo platforms, GameCube and Wii respectively. The collection will mark the first time the PlayStation 2 edition of Tales of Symphonia will be released internationally, having been released in 2004 in Japan alone. The collection will feature new added content for both games, in addition to the added content from the PlayStation 2 edition of Tales of Symphonia, as well as new arrangements of all three theme songs from the two games.[1]

Games

Tales of Symphonia

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles will include the PlayStation 2 enhanced port of the original Tales of Symphonia instead of the GameCube original. The PlayStation 2 version included numerous changes as well as new content such as a new theme song, new outfits for characters, new events and sidequests, new monsters, new techniques and more powerful bosses. This edition of Tales of Symphonia that was released in Japan in 2004 was never released internationally, making this the first time the game will be released internationally.[2] In addition, new additional content will be added for the Chronicles collection including newly illustrated cut-ins for Mystic Artes, new outfits for characters based on characters from other Tales games, such as Luke fon Fabre's outfit from Tales of the Abyss for Lloyd, and will also feature new arrangements of both theme songs for the GameCube and PlayStation 2 edition of the game by Day After Tomorrow[1]

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, known as Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk in Japan, will also be included in the collection. The game was originally released for the Wii in 2008 and incorporated motion controls, it is currently unknown how previous mechanics using motion controls will function in the collection.[1]

Development

In May 2013, a high-definition remaster of Tales of Symphonia and Dawn of the New World was rumoured by a Spanish news site to be in development on the PlayStation 3 for release as Tales of Symphonia: Perfect Edition. The Spanish new site claimed to have gotten the information from "internal sources" and asked series producer, Hideo Baba, at the ExpoManga convention in Madrid, Spain to validate the rumour. Baba responded saying he was surprised such a rumour reached Spain and declined to answer the question directly, instead saying "Who knows, it may be a rumor, or it may be true. I don't know." The rumour also went on to say that the Tales of Symphonia: Perfect Edition was being planned for an international release, though numerous past rumours of localizations for Tales games have often proved untrue.[3][4] A week later, Baba commented on the rumour once again to a German new site claiming that rumours were just rumours and going on to say that he was surprised to be asked to comment on such a rumour and that any celebration for Tales of Symphonia's 10th Anniversary would be something more akin to an event at NamcoCon.[5]

On June 1, 2013 during the Tales of Festival in Japan, the collection was officially announced on stage as Tales of Symphonia: Unisonant Pack by Hideo Baba for an October 2013 release on the PlayStation 3 confirming earlier rumours.[1] The game was also announced for an international release as Tales of Symphonia Chronicles for an early 2014 release on the official Facebook page for the Tales series along with a pre-recorded localization announcement video by Hideo Baba on Namco Bandai Games official Youtube channel confirming the validity of the original rumour except for the name.[6]

Release

The game will release in Japan with several limited editions that include Super deformed figurines of two main characters from each of the two games as well as boxes illustrated by Ufotable, the studio that produced the anime adaptation of Tales of Symphonia instead of Production I.G. the studio that produced the anime cutscenes for the games. The package art will also feature a new artwork from Kousuke Fujishima, one of the main character designers for the Tales series.[1]
