Gayle Manning is the state Senator for the 13th District of the Ohio Senate. She is the Chairman of the Senate Transportation committee. She is a Republican.
Life and career
Manning is a graduate of Kent State University and received a Master's degree from the University of Akron. She would go on to have a thirty seven career in education, serving in the North Olmstead, Ohio public school system.[1] Her late husband, Jeff Manning was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives. Together they have two children.
In 2005, Manning won a seat on North Ridgeville City Council, winning one of three at-large council seats.[2] She would serve a single term on council, rising to serve as finance committee chairwoman and council pro tempore. She opted not to run for reelection in 2007.
Ohio Senate
In 2010, Manning opted to reenter public life by running for a seat in the Ohio Senate against incumbent Senator Sue Morano. With Morano a top target in the 2010 election cycle, the race was eventually rated as a toss-up. With an overwhelmingly Republican electorate, Manning edged Morano to take the seat, obtaining 52.29% to Morano's 47.71%.[3]On January 3, 2011, Manning was sworn into her first term in the Ohio Senate.
