Just Dance 2014 is the fifth game in the Just Dance series, developed by Ubisoft. It is expected to release for current-generation consoles in October 2013, and as a launch title for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It was officially announced at Ubisoft's E3 2013 press event. This is the first game in the series to have a year in the title instead of the usual number.

Gameplay

The gameplay is the same as previous titles in the series, where the players mimic the on-screen dancer. A new addition is the "On Stage Mode", where one player is the lead and the other two are backup dancers. Another addition is the ability to play with people online all around the world in the "World Dance Floor" mode. In this mode, players will be put into a crew and dance based on themes like "boys vs girls".[1] The Wii U version will get a "Party Master" which is a newer version of the "Puppet Master" mode from the previous games, Just Dance 4, and the Xbox One version will get a six-player mode and a Just Dance DJ Mode. Dance mash-ups, alternate/extreme/sweat versions and battle mode will be available. Medleys will return to the series.

Short clips of player dances can be directly shared on Facebook, Twitter, and the Just Dance network.[2]

The game supports up to six players at once.[3] All versions include "Classic" free-dance mode, from previous games.[2] In "Stage" mode, one player dances in a featured role while two players dance backup routines.[2] Another mode lets players dance against ghost renditions of a friend's prior gameplay.[2] The game also has a karaoke mode on consoles with a microphone (except for the Wii).[2] Players are rewarded for singing the right notes with points and are not punished for singing incorrectly.[2] "DJ" mode lets player switch between songs and "shape the music" by dancing.[3] The Wii U version's new "Party Master" mode is an update to the Wii U Just Dance 4 "Puppet Master" mode, where a player uses the Wii U GamePad to change the game's rules, current song, and specific moves for up to four other players with Wii Remotes.[2]

"World Dance Floor" mode is a competitive online multiplayer mode structured like a massively multiplayer online game.[2] All players worldwide dance to the same playlist, compete for rankings on a leaderboard, and share each other's AutoDance clips.[2]

Development

The game was leaked through an erroneous listing on the Xbox Live Marketplace,[4] and officially announced at Ubisoft's E3 2013 press conference.[3]

Just Dance 2014 is expected for release on PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360 in October 2013:[3][2] October 1 for Europe, 4th for the United Kingdom, and 8th for North America.[5] The game is a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.[2] Ubisoft worked with Sony to seamlessly integrate the game into the PlayStation 4's interface.[2]
