Zebedee Soanes (born 1976), commonly known as Zeb Soanes, is a continuity announcer and newsreader on BBC Radio 4.
Early life
Soanes was born in Lowestoft in Suffolk. He is named after the Biblical fisherman Zebedee, who was the father of two of Jesus' disciples.[1]
Education
Soanes was educated at Denes High School, a state comprehensive school in Lowestoft, followed by the University of East Anglia,[2] where he read English and American Studies.[3]
Life and career
Soanes was formerly a presentation announcer for the television channels BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four. In 2001, he began reading the Shipping Forecast, a weather report for the seas around the British Isles, which is broadcast four times a day on BBC Radio 4.[1] He was the first voice to welcome new viewers to the new BBC Four channel when it was launched in 2002.
He returned to BBC Four in August 2006 as a presenter for the BBC Proms and is an occasional reporter for the long-running BBC Radio series From Our Own Correspondent. Soanes is currently a newsreader for BBC Radio 4.
