Madan Mohan Malaviya Engineering College, (MMMEC), is a state funded autonomous engineering institute located in the city of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established in 1962, the college is affiliated to Gautam Buddha Technical University, Lucknow from 2000.It has been granted the status of 'an autonomous institute' by UGC in 2011.[1] College has declared his first final year result successfully after getting autonomous status on 26 June 2012.[2]The College has also been approved as QIP centre by AICTE. In India there are only 24 colleges having QIP centres which includes seven IITs and only five NITs. After IIT Kanpur & IIT Varanasi,it is third in Uttar Pradesh. The Institute is soon to become a Technical University.

History

The college was founded in 1962 along with Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology at Allahabad with an aim to provide technological ground for the development of North-Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. The college initiated with departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Electronics and Communication Engineering was started in 1973. The Computer Science and Engineering degree course was added in 1984. The Center for Management Studies was established in 2001. The college was affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Technical University from the university's inception in 2000 till its bifurcation in 2010, resulting in the college becoming affiliated to the present university. The college is now an autonomous institute. The college is slated to become a technical university, as declared by The Hon'ble Chief Minister of U.P. Shri Akhilesh Yadav. New courses , as many as 16 in number are in pipeline to be started . The university will be a fully residential one .

Administration

The college is managed by a Society registered under the Societies Registration Act. No. XXI of 1960. The administration of the College and its affairs are controlled by Board of Governors of the Society. The Hon'ble Minister for the Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh is the Ex Officio Chairman and the Principal of the College is the Ex Officio member Secretary of the Board of Governors. Other members are the Director of IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, Technical Education Uttar Pradesh, Kanpur, a nominee of the All India Council of Technical Education, Secretary, Technical Education Department of U.P., Secretary, Finance Department, U.P. etc. The college has UGC recognition 2F and 12B under UGC act 1956.

Admission

It admits 330 B.Tech, 108 M.Tech., 60 M.C.A., 60 MBA and 8 Ph.D. students annually to a total student body of 1,640. Admission to the institute is through a state-level entrance examination conducted by Gautam Buddh Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University in collaboration.

Bachelor Of Technology The college offers a Bachelor of Technology degree course of four years duration in the following fields:

Master Of Technology The College offers full-time M.Tech. programmes in Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical and Computer Sc. & Engineering Departments. The duration of the M.Tech. programme is 2 years (4 semesters). The first and second semesters of this programme contains the course work while the third and fourth semesters are devoted solely to thesis work. The students are required to submit a dissertation in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the master's degree at the end of fourth semester.

Master of Computer Applications A 3 year M.C.A. Programme is being offered from the session 1987-88. The present intake is 60. The course aims at training manpower for information system leading to a professional cadre that will develop, install and maintain computer systems for management in industries in addition to application of software development. The course curriculum spreading over six semesters (3 years) includes courses in Computer Science as well as Management and Mathematics with a number of electives like Client Server Computing, Compiler Design, Multimedia Systems, Advanced Computer Networks, Parallel and Distributed Algorithms etc. Students devote the last semester in industry for six months project work that provides them an opportunity to get familiar with state-of-art industry environment/culture.

Master Of Business Administration The Centre for Management Studies of the College came into existence in 2001. Since then, it has been offering full-time MBA programme under self -finance scheme. The courses, as prescribed by Gautam Buddha Technical University, Lucknow, with dual specialization are as follows:

Ph.D. Courses The college has also ben approved as a QIP centre (F.No.RIFD/QIP/Govt/2011) by A.I.C.T.E. to offer Ph.D. under Quality Improvement Programme. The total intake for Ph.D. under QIP is 8 (2 seats in each of the four disciplines i.e. EE, EC, CE and ME).

Campus

The College is located on Gorakhpur - Deoria road, about 9 Kilometers from Gorakhpur Railway Station as well as from main Gorakhpur Roadways bus-station. The college is spread in lush green campus in more than 340 acres .

It is a fully residential college, with five boys' hostels, three girls' hostels, and residences for faculty and staff.

Clubs and Societies

IEEE Student Branch

It is one of the largest student branches of the northern India. To foster an interest in the engineering profession, IEEE also serves student members in colleges and universities around the world.It organizes the technical festival of the college - techSRIJAN, in association with SAE India Collegiate Club. In addition to the mega-tech event , IEEE student branch conducts classes on various topics for the good of the budding engineerers .

The Editorial Board

The Editorial Board is responsible for the publication of college magazine MALVIKA, the Information Brochure and the monthly newsletter, TIRESIA, for the college. It is the only official society working in the college with patron as principal himself. It organizes many literary and artistic events including UDGAAR, ARUNODYAY, SPELLCZAR etc. for the college students. The student activity center (SAC) is vested in the Editorial Board. Every year, new members are selected from the first year by a process of INDUCTION to austerely support the development across the campus.

Robotics club

The club organizes robotics events and workshops, round the year. Wired, Wireless & Autonomous Robotics classes are taken by the club members for the freshers and sophomore batch.Club also provide facilities to students in making their bots (wired, wireless & autonomous). Robomania (an annual technical fest) which consists of many technical events is organized by the club during even semester of the college.A final year student is generally selected as the chairperson of the club while enthusiastic & extrovert students having profound knowledge of robotics are inducted each year in the club from sophomore's batch. INDUCTION is done in the first year via Interview .

SAE India Collegiate Club

Society of Automotive Engineers, Madan Mohan Malviya Engineering College, collegiate chapter was established in March 2004 with the collective effort of a group of students who had a strong urge to shape the theoretical knowledge imparted in the classroom to real automotive works. With a humble beginning, the collegiate club has grown steadily to it present strength of 150 members and is one of the most active and popular technical societies in the campus. The club has many events like INFOTANIA, SYMPOSIUM etc. to its credit and organizes techSRIJAN with IEEE Student chapter, MMMEC. A team of students , encompassing various branches and years , with their ATV "MMMEC Blitz" made it to the top teams at BAJA , winning laurels for the institution .

Others

Every department has a society like ECES, ACE, CES etc. to take collective decisions for students welfare. Students of each branch are expected to join their departmental societies .
