Dave Holmes, RN, Ph.D., is a Canadian professor of nursing, researcher, and author based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. His research interests and writing are in the areas of Public Health, Forensic Nursing, Critical Theory, Epistemology, Law and Ethics, Psychiatric Nursing, Nursing in Corrections, Socio-political Aspects of Nursing, Sexuality, and Public Health Nursing.

Biography

Professor Holmes earned his bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of Ottawa in 1991, his M.Sc. in Nursing from the Université de Montréal in 1998, and his Ph.D. in Nursing from the Université de Montréal in 2002. In 2003, he completed a CIHR post-doctoral fellowship in Health Care, Technology and Place at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Social Work, and he has been principal investigator on CIHR- and SSHRC-funded research projects on risk management in the fields of Public Health and Forensic Nursing. Most of Professor Holmes’s work and research is based on the poststructuralist works of Deleuze & Guattari and Michel Foucault. He has presented at many national and international conferences.

Professor Holmes teaches post-graduate nursing theory, forensic nursing, and policy courses at universities in Ottawa, Montréal, and Pittsburgh. In 2014, he held the following main positions:

Professor Holmes is or has been an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia (2013-2016); Fort de Kock College of Health Sciences, West Sumatra, Indonesia (2013-2016); Binawan Institute of Health Sciences,[3] Jakarta, Indonesia (2013-2016); the University of Chester, Faculty of Health and Social Care, Chester, United Kingdom (2008-2011/2011-2014); and City University, School of Community and Health Sciences, London, United Kingdom (2008-2013). He was a visiting scholar at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Nursing, Sydney, Australia, in 2008, and has been an Honorary Visiting Scholar at Flinders University, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Adelaide, Australia (2006) and Duquesne University, School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States (1999).

Professor Holmes has co-edited 3 books:
