Andrija Popović (Kotor, FNRJ, 22. september 1959) is a montenegrin politician and former famous water polo player. He is president of Liberal Party of Montenegro.
Sports career
Andrija Popović is one of the most successful Montenegrin athletes of all time . With the waterpolo team of Yugoslavia winner of the gold medal at the Olympic games in 1984. year, then the gold medal at the World Championships in 1986. and the silver medal at the European Championships in 1985. and in 1987. year. Playing for the Mladost Zagreb won two European Champions Cup in 1989/90 . in 1990 / 91st He was declared the best athlete of Montenegro in 1985. years . [ 1 ] Vice President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee and president of the Montenegrin Olympians Club .
Political career
Political career began in the Liberal Alliance of Montenegro by doing a sport coordinator. In 2004. After the split in the party and freeze the work of the Liberal Alliance, voluntarily leaves LSCG and connected to the removed and excluded members of the party, who had gathered in the newly formed Liberal Party of Montenegro, as a founding .
He was a member of the Parliament of Montenegro in 2008-2009 . After the Liberal Party in parliamentary elections 2009th lost parliamentary status and the old leadership with Miodrag Zivkovic led resign at an extraordinary conference of the Liberal Party 20 juna 2009. The Andrija Popović was elected its president.
Since his arrival at the head position of the Liberal Party, the party was rebuilt and restored the parliamentary status . From October 2012. year and parliamentary elections in which LP performs in a european coalition with the governing DPS and SDP, Andrija Popović was again a deputy in the Parliament . The Liberal Party is currently frozen membership in the Coalition for European Montenegro DPS -SDP in the Assembly acted on its own in the club with the minority parties ( HGI and Albanian parties ). On the IV regular conference of the Liberal Party of Montenegro 14.09.2013.godine, a large majority of the delegates, was re-elected its president.
He was a member of the Council of the European Movement for Independent Montenegro at the state and municipal level. Andrija Popović live in Kotor . He is married to his wife Nevenka and has three children, Jelena, Andrea and Darja.
